Chain drag

Phil,
I've used a chain link fence to plant a lot of grass. I think you might be using your equipment in the wrong order.
Use the box blade (and loader) first to move dirt and rough grade.
Then till to loosen soil and mix in additives.
Rake to finish grade.
Drag to smooth and lightly cover seed.
Lastly roll it. This will make sure the seed is in good contact with the soil help with erosion.
I willl normally use a pulverizer instead of tilling when I can.

Thank you for posting the information and this is a very helpful thread for me as I have been looking for a way to manage the horse manure on my pastures. As you can tell that I am new to the world of "pature management". I wonder if any of you can tell me what are the differences between the three point Chain Harrow and the pull behind type? Can you go reverse while you are draging? I have a pasture on a steep hill and I drive my tractor only back and forth on that hill. How do you move the Harrow from one pasture to another pasture say few hundred yards away?

Rumor tells me the chain link fence is great for dethatching your lawn. Has anyone tried it. One guy told me he dragged his chain link fence around all the time especially when mowing. Cheap and easy to make but I would want to make sure it worked first. Has anyone tried the chain link for dethatching?

Phil,

What part of Wisconsin are you from. I travel in Wisconsin a lot. If you don't want to post it here send me a PM.

Hey Ken,

Do you have those 4' models at the showroom nearest 65. I travel that more than I should have to, and have thought about having lunch there soon just to stop in, but I also have wanted something like that lighter version harrow. How do they do on basic dethatching of lawn grasses?

I will stop in soon.

Thanks Ken.

If I remember correctly I will be making a southbound swing this week. Except for emergencies, usually I am pretty much on schedule. How do these work for dethatching, and can this replace my rake that is not being used enough. Someone also mentioned rolling after seeding, I dont need bright shiny new, got any pull behinds?

Ken,
Thanks. I'll go to your web site to check out the models and the prices you have. I am thinking about getting a lighter pull behind for my RUV and a heavier one with three point for harder work.
