Chain Harrow ???

   / Chain Harrow ??? #11
I use mine to help maintain a dirt road. Many times I back-drag with it with my bucket set in float and the Chain Harrow attached by it's chain to two hooks I have welded to the top of my FEL Bucket. That way I can raise it off the ground to turn around or get out of a tight spot.

If you can weld you can build one for a low cost. Here is one I built in 2009 for $250.

I've a 12 foot wide x 10 feet long chain harrow. It breaks up and spreads the horse piles well over a rough pasture. Instead of making two passes I overlap each pass by half. To keep the harrow out of the rear wheels when making a sharp turn, I pull it with a 4 foot chain. The chain allows the front bar to stay lower to the ground too. I tried a boom pole to lift it, but it was too big & long for the pole to manage. I simply use the FEL to pick up & transport.

my harrow has a boom attachment that picks up the far end so i can back up, or so i can travel over areas that i DONT want dragged. I feel that the boom is a must

My new drag goes behind my aerator. Has hydraulics to lift chain. Not my tractor but its what I just got delivered. I had a tire/chain deal I used in years past and learned real quick to watch your sharp turns.

Welcome to FHM Equipment LLC
I don't work for them or any of the harrow folks. I have had a Fuerst two section chain harrow for about twenty five years and it is a good one. Probably all the knock offs that are on the market to day are imports and I don't know about them. Every once in a while I gotta take a torch and some leverage to a spot to fix it only because I got hung up on something. You can reverse them for mild or harsh. Sometimes I hand some weight, like five or ten pound pieces on the back of them to add a little penetration. I never had the boom lift and know it would be handy. I just unhook it and the turn around and lift it up with the Front end loader of what ever I have.

I drag our pasture all summer long to break up manure, and I may invest in a harrow this summer, but for about 12 years, we have been using repurposed chain link fence. I attached a 6x6 piece of rough cut that was a scarp from our barn, and two eye hooks, a piece of chain to attach to the eye hooks, and then the tractor, and and some heavy duty fencing nails to attach the fencing to the 6x6, and it works excellent. When I am finished for the day, it rolls up over the 6x6, and it is galvanized, so it has held up very well. I have replaced the fencing portion one after I had run over small stumps multiple times one years, and twisted the fencing wire, however I have always been able to find scrap pieces of chain link fencing for free. Usually fence companies have plenty of it. Mine is about a 10x10, and I actually found one at my grandfathers house that he use to use, 20 years ago with a very similar design(that I had no idea about), and it still works fine. You would be surprised at how well this simple design works, and it light enough to store, and heavy enough to break up manure. Just an idea if you want to build a basic drag. Te photo below isn't ours, but it is very similar:

Here's what I've been using behind a diesel Ranger UTV.
It makes quick work of a very necessary job.
I've only got 7 ac. A larger one isn't necessary for me.

Hello all,
When winter subsides I like to get an attachment that will break up all of the horse manure left in the pasture.
Is a chain harrow the correct attachment for this?

Thanks !
I think Pasture Harrows are what you need.
