here is the second picture showing a close-up of the center chain hook and one of the two homemade slip hooks with chain wrapped around it.

Now here is the last one: showing the left side of the bucket with a chain hook in the top corner and one welded on the side of the bucket down near the bottom center.

I kindly like to use the lower one on the side alot - it's handy. I think there used to be one on the right side of the bucket too, but it must've broke off.

One more thing......

It seems that there was a thread here in the forums where guys were talking about beefing up the top edge of their buckets. Guys were using angle iron and talking about rectangular tubing, etc. Well, when I went out to take pictures of the hooks for you, I noticed the 2" (or larger)pipe that the previous owner welded into the top lip and into the sides of my bucket. Anyway, I thought you might want to consider some reinforcement for yours.

When you're lifting some pretty heavy stuff with the bucket, and all the force is being applied to the top, it wouldn't hurt to consider some kind of support there if your bucket doesn't have any.

Also, I went to the AW website as mentioned by another member and saw those "weld-on" hooks they have. I like those better than what's on mine, although, mine have done pretty good for the last couple of years.

Good luck,

Stretch

I have my hooks welded in line with the loader arms as I figured that was a good spot to transfer force. However, when using a chain and only one hook, the load is considerably off the centerline of the tractor. This tends to make the tractor tip toward that side. Not a good thing if it's a heavy load! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

In the near future I plan to add an additional hook at the center of the bucket so the tipping will be eliminated. Yes, it might lift the rear end, but in my mind that's better than tipping.

Yes indeed Gary....those hooks on the side of the bucket are for light utility use... not for a load that would break one of the arms or tip the tractor to one side. They sure come in handy where they are though. As soon as I get a welder, I'm going to get two or three weld on hooks from the "AW" site and put some more on...

Hi Gary,

I have my hooks welded in the same location as you. When I want to pick up something heavy, I fasten my chain to both hooks and fasten one end of the chain to the the middle of other chain so they come together in middle of the bucket. That way the load is centered with the bucket, and no tipping. If the chain isn't long enough, I add more chain to it until I can reach the load.

Looking at the front of the tractor with the chains in place, it looks like a Y.

Hope that helps. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This also spreads the strain over to 2 areas of the bucket instead of just one place on the bucket taking all the stress.

One needs to be careful with this type of rigging. If the upper legs of the Y are at 45 degree angles each is seeing the full load of the vertical chain. As the included angle goes less than 90 degrees the load on the Y legs goes up exponentially. This can become hazardous for those that think 3/8" chain is excessive.

SIR,
in my opinion, the buckets on the kubota
are made of thin material, and not very strong.
i have a L3000DT, and i used a 2x3in angle
to reenforce the top back edge of the fel,
then i welded the hooks to this.
the 2in goes against the top edge, the 3in is
welded to the back of the bucket.

Hi Mike,
I guess I should have stated that I don't pick anything up using that setup that I couldn't pick up with just one chain. And I also hook the chains together well forward of the bucket, so the angles are more in the range of 60 degrees than 45. Thanks for the reminder, if I don't do things like that all the time, sometimes I forget the little details. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
