Mark I represent that remark! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I know exactly where my misplaced chain actually is. (it is not not lost) I remember when I put it in the FEL bucket and I remember the next time that I needed it and is was no longer in the bucket. So where did it go?

Unfortunately I moved about 30 tons of dirt after digging a 300 foot drainage ditch to a low spot on my property. So the chain, all 20 feet of it, has been properly buried, under 30 or so tons of fresh earth. May it rest in peace, Amen!

Never, never let it be said that we don't offer proper burial rites and rituals here at the Pine Ridge 7 Ranch. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now is there anyone else out there that has anything else that they want me to lose, I mean bury.

Someone on this board posted the idea of putting a glove over the loader joystick as a reminder when something is in the bucket that he didn't want to bury. It works.

( I would like to make something similar to carry the chainsaw, just got to figure out what I need. )

I had problems with my chainsaw as well. My solution was to make a bore cut with the chainsaw lengthwise down a section of 2x6 that was a few inches longer than the bar on the chainsaw. Basically, I ended up with a wooden "scabbard" that I clamp to the tractor or one of my attachments to carry the chainsaw. Making it from wood also helps protect the teeth on the chain. It's cheap and quick to make. Making a bore cut as long as your bar can be a bit tricky... you have to be careful not to come out the sides of the board.

Thanks for the ideal, now I just got to figure out where I can mount it on the tractor. Because I usually have the winch on.

Kensfarm:

The loader brackets are robust and will have a great safety factor. I have no concern about drilling and tapping the holes. With lock washers they should not loosen.

Don,

You are clever at how you pointed out my typo. Chains are 8', 16' and 20'. No 116' chain.

Gary,

I built the skinny one first because that is the size of steel the scrap yard had. It was $0.50. It has the cut out top and exposed bolts because the original box had one side longer so I just rounded it with a grinder. This box was not large enough for my bigger chain and I wanted more.

The other two boxes are made from bigger square tubing. They were $1 each. Two bigger boxes were originally mounted to the clutch bell housing in holes drilled for the FEL mounting. To get one of the chains I always had to walk around the tractor. When The FEL came the two boxes came off of course. Once the FEL was on I immediatly missed the chain box so picked up one of the boxes and started looking for a mounting location. It was so good that I got the third skinny box out of the scrap pile and mounted it too. The bolt holes on all three are easy enough to get to. Keep it simple.

Glad some oy you found the pistures to be helpful.
This photo shows how the two boxes were originally attached, one on each side.
