Can't speak to the Stihl, but I wouldn't buy a Husky 460. I like Huskies, but only buy the "XP" pro models. They are all really good, as are the Stihl pro models. I think the brand matter much less than picking a pro model from whatever brand's lineup.

+1 IMHO, the Stihl MS362 to Husqvarna 460 is not an apples-to-apples comparison.

AHH, another brand bashing thread with brand loyal (blind) followers.

I tell ya, I absolutly hate it when people say "get brand x because I had a brand Y saw and it was junk"

Get real. ALL saw manufactures make LOW GRADE HOMEOWNER SAWS that most of us consider JUNK. INCLUDING the beloved STIHL.

People that say they had a husky that was junk and a stihl that was great are probabally comparing a $180 husky 136 (homeowner model) to a $350+ Stihl 260 (pro grade).:confused2: Just makes me sick.

That like driving a ford crown vic and saying you will never own a chevy because you had one that was junk. And then you find out the chevy they had was a cavalier:confused2:

To the OP.....You are comparing apples to oranges here. And a BIG price difference as well. That husky is <$450 and that stihl is $650+.

To be fair, compair that stihl to a 357XP or a 562XP, or even a dolmar PS6400 if you have one around. THOSE are the prograde saws. IF that is what you want.

If you DONT want to spend the $$$ and only want an average homeowner saw, compair that 460 to a stihl MS310.

Keep the comparisions apples to apples please:thumbsup:

I have used the Stihl saws from past one year..And they are more reliable and stay according to our tune.. So i think this is better than a husky..

the Stihl 460 is very much a pro saw. they make two versions of it, the regular saw and the "rescuse saw". it's a beast of a chainsaw, little "old school", but a cutting machine nonetheless. looked at one today acctually that had a $800 price tag. the homeowner saws have their place, just like the pro saws. me personally, i choose pro saws simply because of the power to weight ratio is better.

Mostly limbing, some small tree felling, and around the place occassional use. What Stihl model in the $300-$350 range should I buy, I really don't need more than a 16'' bar, no more than 18" bar; have some physical limitations. tks for replies.

Stihl ms250 or 271 "wood boss" should do what you want. the ms250 can be had for under $300 right now and is about 2 lbs lighter then the ms270. also about 5cc's smaller. a friend has the ms250 and he's enjoyed it. I have the ms260 pro and I paid a good bit more, but to me it was worth the extra $$$. not everyone is like me though when it comes to justifying things.

Prices may have went up a tad, And I know you are partial to stihl, But IMO, you cannot beat a Dolmar 5105 for quality and performance in the ~$400 price range.

It will eat anything else that is even close in size and cost.

I dont know stihls well enough to know the ins and outs of the MS250 and MS270, but neither are their pro grade models.

The MS260 is, then it jumps to the MS361.

Apparently the MS260 costs more than I though based on what others have said here. But for a 50cc saw, 3.75HP, and 11.2lbs.....it compairs really nicely to the 5105 @ 51cc, 3.8HP, 11.2lbs. So I would think it shouldnt cost much more than the $400 5105, and it it does cost much more, I wouldnt buy it.
