You guys keep talking about hours on a tractors. Thats the biggest laugh lately. I have purchased tractors from many sources. Vn and American sources. But I tell a customer when they look at one of my tractors to not believe the hour meter. Its like speedometer on autos used to be. Why did the states start making dealer certify the miles on a car. There was so much fraud, nobody knew what to believe. I tell people to look at the condition, condition, condition of the tractors and I begin as a professioonal sales person to point out what for them to look for. I never see filter like show in the above pictures on american or vn tractors. If you have then you purchased from the wrong source and don't know how to evaulate a piece of machinery. I sold machinery for almost 40 years. I guess I learned something.
I never mentioned hours at all. So if you've been satisfied with vn recons are you still buying from American and vn sources?

I bought a VN recon. ... When I took the filter screen out, I found that it was covered in silicon, and debris, but someone had stuck a hole in the screen. I guess so that the pump could get enough oil...

Well I bought my American Yanmar from a good ol American Farmer. A Firefighter, even. Look what I found:
IMG_5783r-YM-HydraulicFilter.jpg

It took everything short of a slide hammer to get that filter out. The coil spring jumped at me when I took the cover off, showing that whoever went in there before had botched the tabs then clearly didn't replace the filter.

When I got the replacement filter and o-ring, I noted the o-ring I had found in there was far too fat. The bogus o-ring had crushed the filter's shoulder, and then cooked, to become a severely strong adhesive.

Amazingly the hydraulic system worked fine before and after I replaced the filter, o-ring, and fluid. (I also flushed the transmission case with diesel). The filter looked intact when I first looked in there and saw its inner surface, but it had to have been neglected for a couple of decades.

Buyer beware - check everything if you didn't buy from a first-class dealer!

Joe,

Visited your website and looks as though you're enjoying the retired life.

It wasn't too long ago when some dealers, and espcially new dealers bought reconditioned tractors (Yanmar) and a high percentage were plagued with problems, fought for their customers but lacked support on their wholesale end. Many of those dealers jumped ship, quit the business and only a few actually stopped entirely with the reconditioned units and went with the used, popular models.

Do you warranty, service and repair any of these Yanmar's? And should a customer have problems, do you ship them replacement parts when a customer has a problem in a reasonable time frame?

I'm very curious as to how you've overcome 'other' reconditioned wholesalers and found tractors that meet your high standards and expectations...I would find it fascinating to hear your success (excluding your business secrets of course).

I have answered Mark777 in a private email. I don't care to post all my secrets.

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum. I've have been reading threads on this website for quite a while. I started to notice there is a trend going on here on this forum since 2002 that constantly used vn in a negative tone. If they are such bad tractors how come they are in the business for so long? With such adverse connotations, they would be out of business. There are alot of so call DEALERS that degrade vn tractor so they could sell their products. It seems like these DEALERS are good salemans. WHo in here can guarenteed that their so call used tractors will not run into problems? What it boils down to is as a consumer, we would need support from whoever sell the tractors. If the support is there when we need them, then they would be an ideal dealer to buy from. THis forum has become a place to brainwash new guys who just want to know some info about their tractor. Any used or "recond" tractors will eventually run into problems. Even brand new ones sometimes.

The reason was to see if you have any personal dealings with these tractors. Obviously, I have touch a nerve. If I did, then it was not intentional.

I lurked here for a few years before buying my tractor and have found the majority of information to be dead nuts on. Information is power, and if you're good enough - you may beat the odds concerning the VN rebuilds, but just knowing how the deck is stacked and the challenges getting correct maintence parts to fit later just isn't for the masses... Good luck on your purchase - may yours serve you half as well as my slightly faded 3110D has served me.:D
