Do you change transmission fluid at 200? The service chart just indicates to change the filters, not the fluid, yet the 200 hr service section says to drain the fluid. Not sure I want to put the old fluid back in after draining it.
I let the dealer do the 50 hr service. THey changed the fluid and filters.

The WSM for my tractor calls for both to be changed at the same time. I can't imagine why you'd change the filter and not the fluid. On my JD it calls for changing the oil twice as often as the filter, but I do both anyway. Cheap insurance, as far as I'm concerned...

Gee...I don't remember what my tractors called for....but...considering the cost of the tractor and the cost of the hydro fluid...seems like a no brainer to me.

Change the fluid and get some sleep... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif That's what I would do anyway... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Good question, buckeye, I wondered about that too. My L4300 calls for hyd. filter change halfway to the fluid change. With 10 plus gallons of SUDT, I don't want to change the oil before it's called for....the stuff isn't cheap. On the other hand, I don't want to put oil I drained and possibly contaminated back in the tractor.

Just finished doing my own 50 hr. service. Keeping everything neat and tidy with that much oil sloshing around wasn't easy.

I wonder whether the filter can be changed without draining the oil? Will oil squirt out of the filter fitting when the filter's removed? Is it possible to do it quickly enough so that only a quart or two is lost? How do they do it in the dealer shops? I'm sure they wouldn't waste time draining the oil and risking contamination if it wasn't really necessary.

Neil, you there? What say about this?

I changed my L3430 at 50 and 400 hours complete oil and filters. At 200 hours I just changed the filters.

I did not drain the oil, I had the new filter ready and switched really fast! Lost about two to three quarts of UDT, just add new to replace.
