Now you are talking about me, junkman. But yes I think its improper, I'm an ordained minister, and have a D.D. and a Ph. D. in theology, so I don't like it. And I think this forum has been a very clean one, and he comes along and starts using the H.word a couple of times and then that. There is a lot of ladys that read this to. Just because the ladys are into tractors don't mean they like the crude words. I have known women that drove a tractor before they ever drove a car, and the ones I know, don't like that kind of talk. And I don't think that they should have to be reading words that do nothing for the post. I wouldn't want my mother to, if she were alive. Or my wife either, she wouldn't like it. I think we should try to keep the site clean, as it has been 99% of the time, till he started that. There now you know why I said something.

I agree with you Dick. There's no place for the language. I don't care how common it is.

If you are looking for a fight, you won't get one here!!! I merely posted my reasoning for not using the other definitions. I realize that this site is 100% politically correct, so I don't go out of those bounds. Not that I would normally. I must admit that my mother read books every day of her life as a proof reader for major publishers of literature, both fiction, history, and scientific books published in this country. While she might not have approved of some of the language that was used, neither was she shocked. To deny that some people use expressions that others find offensive is like putting your head in the sand like an ostrich. I am sure that some of your parishioners talk that way when you aren't around. Don't worry about anything that I might say. You have successfully silenced me and probably a lot of other people that read this site and might have posted.

Being 'politically correct' has nothing to do with what language is tolerated on TBN. TBN is a Family Friendly Site. If you visit the TBN About Us page you will see the following. Note specifically the fifth point.

A Family Friendly Site
In December, 2001, TractorByNet.com was recognized by FamilyFriendlySites.com, a leading reviewer of website content, as a "Family Friendly Site" with content suitable for viewers of all ages. TractorByNet.com met (and must continue to meet to maintain the recognition) a set of strict guidelines for recognition:

1. No adult-themed or sexually explicit text, images, or photographs.
2. Maintains an advertising policy that rejects advertising for alcohol, tobacco, gambling, and pornography.
3. Does not promote hate, violence or discrimination in any way
4. Does not promote any illegal substances or activities
5. Posts and enforces rules in discussion forums to prohibit sexually explicit language, profanity, and remarks that disparage or ridicule others.
6. Links only to sites that share the intent of being family-friendly.

When someone joins TBN, they agree to abide by the TBN Terms of Service. One of these rules is;

2. Publish, post, distribute or disseminate any defamatory, infringing, obscene, indecent or unlawful material or information.

There's an automatic filter that catches most of the common profanities. We moderators have a responsibility to deal with the 'masked' profanity in order to help keep TBN a Family Friendly Site. While we can't catch every attempt to get around the filters (why people do this is beyond me, particularly given the Terms of Service they agreed to), when we find it, we deal with it.

By the way, here's the definition of 'politically correct' from dictionary.com
politically correct
adj. Abbr. PC
Of, relating to, or supporting broad social, political, and educational change, especially to redress historical injustices in matters such as race, class, gender, and sexual orientation.

As you can see, it's got nothing to do with 'political correctness' (regardless of the definition of this phrase) and everything to do with keeping TBN a Family Friendly Site and each person living up to their TBN membership responsibilities.

Well--here's an update.

At lunch today I'm picking up a 1996 E150 Conversion. It has the 5.0 V8 with a hair over 52,000 miles.

While I take my truck to the Ford Dealer (they are close to my office), I'm planning on taking the van to a local shop that has done work on the RV (they have a great rep in town). It's convenient to go to them as this vehicle can be dropped off and picked up without worry about timing--it's not an everyday vehicle.

Anyway--here's a list of what I'm going to have them do before the first long trip (Rapid City SD in mid Oct).

Oil Change (Possibly Synthetic)
Add Block heater
Service Tranny--new filter and fluids
Flush Radiator
Fuel Filter--not sure about this one.
Check Brakes, Belts and Hoses

Any other items you guys can think of?

Thanks

Bob

I am getting all the heat for this and I am not the person that made the "offensive" post. Got to love this........ the other person makes what you feel is an offensive post and I get the rash. Next will you want to tar and feather me???? What ever happened to tolerance of others opinions.

My response was clearing up the issue that you raised that TBN language standards had to do with 'political correctness'. My response had nothing to do with an offensive post you, or anyone else, made.

Hey Bob,
Congrats and good luck with the van.
Might have them check out the brakes, at 52,000 miles it might be close.
Fuel filter probably has not been changed either, probably a good idea unless it is one that is inside the tank.
Those can get expensive.
