I put a small aluminum cooking pan under the drain-I bend it to wrap around the housing. I still get a little leakage-but not too bad.

This works for me and I rarely spill any on my B7800 and six ft mower.

If you have a loader standing on edge is very easy and fast complete drain. I have used a vacuum pump on very large rear decks.
Still prefer hanging from loader. It is easy to service blades and check under side of deck.

Frank, I do not know why you did not get a reduction in operating temp, What is your ambient temperature. Here in Kansas when it is at or over 100 degrees my various gear boxes could run over 200 degrees. With a switch to synthetics I have always been below 180 degrees on all of them.
The hottest was on my six foot shredder, next hottest was my seven foot RFM Land Pride. The coolest running was my six foot ZTR, it has an aluminum gear box housing and I think that helps dissipate heat. But all mowers while cutting heavy grass, dropped in operating temperature with synthetic. KennyV.

You could get a boom pole for the tree point, relatively inexpensive and many other uses also.

Block the opposite side of the deck up some, then take a plastic quart size zip-loc bag and put the open end under/around the drain plug. Plastic bag will fit between gear box and pulley and is much easier than a foil pan. Take the plug out and oil will drain into the bag.

Could you guys give the detail on the oil? Can I just get it at an auto parts store? I didn't get the manual with my deck and had no idea about servive interval on gear box. I used it 50 hrs for sure.

The gear oil service interval is at the first 50 used hours and then every 150 used hours after that.

Thanks for the reply. I will have to take care of this ASAP.

So. After draining out the used gear oil. Do I just fill the gearbox to a marked level, or bottom of the filling hole? Where is the mark if there is one? Could you give some details or possibly a picture? My B7510 has the suspended BX type mowing deck so it should be the the same gear box I assume.

If your deck is similar to the RCK60B23BX, the fill hole is on top of the gear box. The drain/sight plugs are on the side. You fill to the bottom of the sight plug (top plug). For me, it took about 12oz (the manual said .38 qt).

I finally changed my gear oil this weekend after getting all of the great advice from this forum. I went ahead and attempted the quart plastic bag trick and didn't do so well. I blocked the opposite end of my mower up but I guess I didn't get it high enough. At first, all fluid went into the bag but as it slowed down, the fluid ran down the side of the gear box and not all in the bag. Oh well, not too much of a mess. I finished draining the fluid by getting out my manual pump extractor. I think I will buy a better extractor for the next time and just use it.
