changing HST fluid

Mine's hydro, found shavings in the fluid and screen at 50 hrs. Just for giggles, I did it again at 100 and perfectly clean. So for me it was worth it.

Gear tractors may behave differently in this mainenance, don't know.

Mines hydro too. I was referring to using the clutch for the ratio (L,M,H) change. Oh well, I'm just crabbing because I didn't feel like spending 120 bucks this weekend and crawling around on the floor with messy oil all over the place:(

hard to get to fillers, gotta love those.

totally understand the shoulder shrug. but an industry wide proclamation based on one anecdotal experience probably isn't the best bet.

most machinery has break in periods for very specific reasons.

i mean hey, it's a great thing how clean yours was and a testament to the quality of product and maybe you got one of the better ones off the line?

in a way it's not really ideal to "only change fluids when visible, particulate matter is present".

I was just going to let this go but - I don't like your condescending attitude in telling me what is a good bet and what isn't

I think I was pretty clear in stating that my post was an "unprofessional opinion and just my experience. I wouldn't call it an "industry wide proclamation" by any stretch of the imagination. I'm simply stating what I saw in my experience and what I am going to do based on that experience and the supposedly incorrect manual and let everyone form their own opinions base on their experience and information. I never stated that I was going to change fluids when visible, particulate matter is present -those are your words - how the **** would you know unless you drained it anyway? I said I was going to change it at the original 400 hours stated.

I actually thought the filters were pretty easy to access once your lying under the thing. Is that an "industry wide proclamation"?

I'm with you on that. Not a fun activity, the most frustrating part for me is that my drain pan won't fit between the tires. Have to jack it up 8" or so. Minor complaint. The filter is a little tougher with the MMM mounted.

Now that you're done you can forget about it for a while...:D

Leaving cuttings in there for 50 hours is plenty long enough .
No need to leave them in there for another 2 or 3 hundred hours.

I think the main reasons that Kubota recommends changing the hydraulic fluid at 50 hours in the BX and 400 hours in the L series is because:

The BX has a small $9 filter and a just a transmission screen and only holds about 2 gallons of fluid.

The L series has a large $40 hydraulic filter and a large $60 HST filter and holds about 13 gallons of fluid.

There is more fluid and it is much better filtered in the L series thus requiring changes less often the first time.

TallyHo, I'll bet you dollars to donuts part of this manual change is to satisfy environmental regulations in US.

Tim, go to Lowes and buy the black, flat-sided bucket. $5 and it fits PERFECT under a BX.

Bstrom, relax. You're not getting flamed.

Yet. :D

Thanks...I'll do that. "Shimming" it on 6x6's+2x6's isn't fun.

What L series is this please?
