Changing Power Steering Fluid??

Doc Bob,

Yes i'm sure.........the manual said the trans, hyd, and rear differential would hold 11.4 gallons .

I didn't notice if there's some special Power steering fluid for this tractor....does anyone know if it matters or can I get a good quality fluid and go with it?

My PS runs off of the same lines as my trans, lift, etc. So when I chnage my trans, it does all the other fluids.

I would get the OEM fluid if possible. Hate to ruin a pump from the wrong fluid.

Drain the lines and then measure what you get. If it is close, fill with new OEM fluid, run and repeat.

Good luck!
Bob

Jinman - let us know how it goes! I'm coming up on a hydraulic fluid change. The composition of diesel fuel varies so widely, that I'll bet there's huge overlap with hydraulic fluid.

It's not a matter of a overlap it's the additives in the hydraulic oil. A large portion of the organic and inorganic additives would be deposit forming since they are either non flamable or decompose under the extreme heat conditions in a combustion cylinder into other compounds. It's fairly simple, it's not designed to be added to fuel and in no way should be used for that purpose.

I was just reading about people burning it 50 / 50 with diesel.

Instead of flushing powersteering fluid I use a turkey baster to pull out all the fluid in the resevoir and refill with new. I do this every time I change the oil. May not be perfect but it's ok with me and my vehicles. Gives me a little piece of mind too. Just don't reuse the turkey baster for cooking:D.

Matt Jr,

Good idea, never thought of that.......Just wonder how much is in the lines that you're not getting??? Prob doesn't matter that much if you change it that often though.

That's my thoughts.
