Low Bucket

They are not Mobile home axles they are Camper trailer axles 3500 lb With brakes on all 4 wheels the bolt pattern is what they call "Dexter Star" and Wheels are hard to find for them. I have a 1985 23' Yellowstone Camper that has same Pattern but 14" wheels. The frame is a Camper frame 2X4" with 3" channel welded to bottom for additonal strengh. Plan on hauling about max of 2 tons on it.

I haven't decided if I am going to put a tailgate on it or not. Do you have any thing over the wood floor on the inside. I wasn't sure how well dirt would slide on wood. I was thinking of using wood and putting a piece of liner like we use in the dump trailers at work over the wood. I wouldn't have to lift as high with the liner.

The wood floor has worked out good. I think one time I was hauling wet red clay and it builded up in the front corners some. Other then that no trouble and I have dropped some big rocks ( not by choose ) in it.
If you don't make it to remove the tail gate, just keep it in the back of your head. You said you weren't going to put a tail gate on it, I think after you get it done you well put one on.
A liner sure would help and you are right about maybe not having to go as high. I think you were thinking a 5 X 8 trailer, if so without a tail gate you well not hvae alot of dirt in it. The tail gate well give you one more bucket full. After a few load the trailer sure seems like it gets smaller, and smaller. At the end of the day you well be thinking it's only a wheelbarrel full.
Well have fun building it and I'm sure it well be done right and do what you want it to do.

You will end up putting a tailgate on it, at least plan for it now so it is easier. You will want one as soon as you use it.....

I was thinking some used tin siding would make a floor over the wood floor - take a little abuse, slide a little better, keep the wood dry.

Paul I think I well try that, just because It's a good, cheap ideal. Good one!! But I haven't had any trouble with that, never know just might.
