How cheap is cheap?

There used to be a guy from Indiana or Illinois that used to posts ads in the classified section. I thought he had some nice looking ones for about $79. I can't remember his contact information. I should have bought one then.

Good Luck,
Kevin

I bought a few 6" long 2" receiver tubes and welded one on the Massey and one on my Norse winch frame to pull the splitter. Small and rugged. On the Massey I welded it right to the swinging drawbar just forward enough so the pintle hook downswing would clear the end of the drawbar. Worked great and the pin bore in the end of the drawbar was still usable. They are about $12-14 at various places like Northern, http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=6970&productId=137095&R=137095 and others.

Cheapest one I have found is the one I made from a ruined 3pt hay spear. Cut off the spears and welded on a piece of 1/2" plate, then added a piece of square tubing. I even put a 2 5/16" ball on top for our goose necks.I think my total cost was about $30 bucks. But then, I already had the biggest part.

I had an old hitch from a junk truck that I was able to cut up, add pins, etc. Made a great little 3PH for moving trailes around the yard, stuff like that. I wouldn't trust my welding to go driving down the road with it though, might get a little too exciting for me /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I only had about 5-10 bucks (and a little time) in the whole thing, but I already had the hitch from the truck to use. Maybe you could find a used hitch in the junk yard to do something like I did? Not sure how much they charge for something like that.

Oops, forgot I had a picture.... Don't make fun of my welding skills /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif So far it has held together. I added the two pins for the lift arms and the two metal bars that go up to the top link. I think I used something I found off the shelf at TSC that already had the holes, so I didn't have to drill them. The rest was from the old truck hitch. Oh, and some old black spray paint I had on the shelf (everybody has at least two cans of partially used spray paint), helps slow down the rust, makes it not quite as ugly /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've seen ones like this for $150-$200 before. Of course they were prettier than mine but who cares /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I bought one of those but you also had to either have a drawbar (I think that is what it is called) or buy one to bolt the receiver piece to. He also offered free shipping. I like that version as I also bolted two ammo boxes to carry chains in. I had also thought about buying a carryall and cut the arms off shorter and bolt one of those hitch receivers to it.

Here is the one I bought: easy hitch

I apologize MikePA if I didn't do the link thing right. It was my first try /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the ideas guys. Lots of options. I also have an old hay spear.. that I can cut up for a frame.. as i have a new hay spear to use.

I think.. I'm going to hit NH dealer and get the a-frame brackets that bolt on the 3pt drawbar and has a toplink hookup.. then add a ball in the drawbar Kit is only like 39$ from NH.. and I can hook it up on my cat1 drawbar, and use bushings to make it cat 2.. that way 'all' my tractors can use it.
