I got a hold of about a half dozen military 5 gallon fuel cans, the newer plastic ones. with the new screw on spout the are great, I buy fuel (gas and diesel) and transfer to smaller cans as needed.

Mark, that s a good can and it has the safety snuffer inside the spout...They hold up well too..

I have 2 of the exact Blitz can & nozzle below, & was pouring diesel into my tractor ... I mean onto the ground ... because the cap itself split about half-way around where the seal is made against the can's spout, & it let diesel flow freely onto our precious environment. ie It cracked in the same place it would crack if you purposely tightened it waaaay too tight. But I did not.

Beepington, thanks for the warning...last thing i need is to buy something that splits easily, especilally when in a strain in the first place?

Just ridiculous that our govt thinks these are more environmentally friendly than the old ones. I still have a couple 1-gal, a 2-gal & a 2.5-gal can that are plastic & range from ~15 - ~25 years old, & none have any cracks or leaking nozzles. (they're all red for gas)
I purchased a small transfer pump from Heartland America. (Google) Runs on 2D-cell Batteries and pumps a 1 & 1/2 gals. a minute. Works great for us, no mess and very easy to use. I have a weed control business with 10 or so small engines and Kabota tractor. We use them everday. They run about $20.00 a piece. I buy 2 or 3 at a time. They break sometime but they work great.

The cap on my Blitz can split at exactly the same place as the op and an couple of other people on here said. I -HATE- Blitz cans, especially the stupid nozzle.
Can somebody tell me what exactly is more environmentally friendly about these cans? It might be that they are air-tight and vapors don't leak out. Whenever I open mine up, vapors blast out of it so I guess that doesn't help anything.
That justrite can looks pretty awesome! Too bad I still have to do a balancing act to fuel the tractor with it, but at least I wouldn't have to worry about fuel leaking and dripping out everywhere.
P.S. The metal can at Northern tool is no longer available according to their website....but it's a Blitz anyway so there's bound to be something wrong with it...

Re: the 1st video: I did all the same mods to my 2 Blitz cans, except made my vent a little different (threaded a 1/4" bolt into the vent, but I like his idea better!). The problem is that there are 2 little holes on the back of the nozzle itself ... these are the ones that cause the gurgle-gurgle the whole time you're pouring when the can is new & un-modified ... & once I drilled a vent hole, that allowed diesel to pour right out those 2 nozzle vent holes. For now I've inserted rubber pieces into those holes to plug them, which works OK, but they're a little "rigged". They do work, tho. If someone comes up with a good idea on how to plug those 2 little odd-shaped nozzle vent holes, please post it :thumbsup:
