cheap date update....my plan to ask out a woman i know already didn't pan out, yet. i thought i knew where she works but she wasn't there anymore.
since i'm tired of sitting on the sidelines and the weather is making getting any work done pretty near impossible i joined match.com for a month as some of you guys suggested. i now have my first date and it doesn't get cheaper than this. the woman saw my farm facebook page and wanted to come here to see my greenhouses. sunday morning. i told her she can bring her dog. i don't think i've ever had a sunday morning first date unless it was a holdover from saturday night, if you know what i mean. this isn't a much younger woman but someone just 6 years younger than me. so this date just cost what it cost for match.com. i told her to bring her own food and toilet paper.

I hope you're joking about her bringing her own food. When I was single, I found that posting pics of where I live and my pets on Match was an excellent way to break the ice and have something to talk about. If this date doesn't work out, get a pet pig, for some reason, girls love them!!! :)

Not knowing what you want out of dating, you get what you put into it. I took it very seriously and spent a lot of time figuring out what I wanted to write down about myself, what I'm looking for and what I want out of life. I posted as many pictures as I could that where all recent, with a smile.

I also learned real fast not to take what other posted too seriously. It's funny, but people write things about themselves that they "want" to be true, or "wish" where going to happen. I don't think they lied, but that they just have a different idea of reality then I do.

That is funny! Made me LOL.

That is good, most females wouldn't think of it as funny.

Well??? It's Monday morning! How did Sunday morning go? Was she impressed with the greenhouses? What kind of dog does she have? Did she bring enough toilet paper to share?

Reading through this thread brought back some "interesting" memories from my dating-after-divorce days! I did the online thing as well. A lot of the women suggested "lunch dates" which was fine. Many of them were more like an interview than a date. Panera was usually suggested and often the women offered to pick up their own lunch. I always said "Thanks, but I asked you out, so I will pick up the tab." MOST of them usually ordered the soup/half sandwich combo (with water to drink) as did I so I usually knew just what the tab was going to be (right around $16). I met up with one gal at Panera and I didn't hear her order as I was standing behind her. I then placed my order and the cashier asked for something like $24!! :confused3: Turns out that she ordered the soup/half sandwich combo, but also an extra side, some fancy coffee drink and a pastry for dessert!! I quietly reached in my pocket for more money and we sat down to eat. While talking with her, it turns out that she had the stomach by-pass surgery to lose weight which means that the amount you can eat at any one time was limited. She was planning on eating what I had bought her for the rest of the day! After she packed the leftovers in a to-go bag, I never saw her again!

I have waaaaay too many stories about some of the others I met, but I won't bore you any more. I will just say "hang in there" and you'll eventually find what you're looking for. Best of luck to you, Randy!!

My go-to first date is to a coffee shop. $3 for a coffee, and if you really like the woman then you can carry it on to dinner. If its a non-starter you are only out the cost of a cuppa, and everyone is happy.

My fiance and I met for our first date at a starbucks, which carried on to a stroll around Colonial Williamsburg, then to dinner. In almost 3 years we've only been apart a handful of days, and I couldn't be happier. She agrees that it was a great first date!

the date went well. she brought her lab mix and Sadie got a long with my Daphne, an ancient who knows what kind of dog.
she was here for about 5 hours and we talked alot. she got the farm tour and was impressed. she is attractive. i fixed lunch for us. i like her but not in any out of the ordinary way. we didn't make any definite plans to see each other again. i had a lot of fun spending time with someone new. this is a much different experience than dating was 30+ years ago when i last dated.

Well, you've got to start somehow and from what you told us there, it seems like a start. Good luck
