Cheap roller/packer?

too late now but the diameter of the pipe is a little small compared to factory built cultipackers I have seen . it may not roll as easily over bumps or clumps of dirt.

I like the scrapper idea to keep dirt from sticking to the roller

Why not make a multiple roller cultipacker from some round timber fence posts and some 2X4's? You could use lag bolts as the axles and sleeve them with pipe segments to hold down wear on the wood frame. It probably wouldn't hold up to daily use but for food plots and hobby farming it might do OK. If you add enough posts it might be heavy enough to give good seed to ground contact. See bad sketch below.

No... Not a bad idea at all... Kind of a Fred Flintstone approach to the idea, but easy enough to put together and try...
If it works well enough, that is fine... If it doesn't work well... Convert it to firewood... Nothing lost but a little time to try it..

I have built what I shall call - home made drag. It effectively levels the tilled ground and covers the seeds. I have a rope yoke between this "drag" and my ATV. If you built something like I have - you might not want the spikes on the leading & trailing 4 x 4. I go round & round - back & forth. The wild grass seed is buried and the plot ends up almost smooth as a pool table.

If it doesn't roll good, put several rows of 1" re-bar spikes on it.. Not long enough to hurt anything, but long enough to engage and roll..

i tried it out and it rolled nice on dried soil . I am gonna use it only once after seedling grass seed over 2 acres and roll it at least twice over to get the seed well pushed down and a very good compacted soil.
but before i will level the soil once more with my homemade 3 point or tow drag grader with spike to not only level the soil but break the small roots , pull the rock up to surface, backfilling the hole ,and break the bump. it work very good.
