Sometimes those big shocks and tires can mean the difference in getting the job done and not. I guess this power wagon is more for work than going to horse shows.

“The Dodge Ram Power Wagon goes places no other pickup can, while the Ram SRT-10 Quad Cab hauls in more ways than one,” said Dieter Zetsche, president and chief executive of the Chrysler Group.

The Power Wagon returns to Dodge for the first time in 25 years. Based on the Dodge Ram 2500, it is designed more for rugged working conditions than for mainstream driving.

Its 33-inch tires are the tallest standard tires offered on a production pickup. The Power Wagon will come equipped with one engine, the 345-horsepower Hemi V-8.

The Quad Cab is aimed at truck enthusiasts who want racing performance with room for the family and towing capacity. The four-door version of Dodge’s existing Ram SRT-10 regular cab pickup will come equipped with a 500-horsepower Dodge Viper V-10 engine.

I don't think the powerwagon could do much work. Being that tall it sure wouldn't haul very many trailers. It looks like an awesome 4wd for the mountains but as a work truck I think it would be pretty limited. It is targeted as a 4wd vehicle for enthusiasts, just like the superduty is targeted as a "real" work truck and towing machine. My superduty regularly hauls 15 tons of hay, 13 tons of cattle or horses, countless tractors and equipment, hauls a dump wagon around with untold of stuff in it, hauls gravel, cattle, and whatever else in the bed up to 3 tons, travels terrain pretty similiar to what they showed the power wagon doing, has hauled elk out of many roadless areas, and yea for a break on the weekends it hauls 26,000 lbs. of horse trailer and horses to the rodeo.

The new SuperDuties are awesome. I would do just about anything to have one. Then sticker shock sets in. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Have you seen the new SuperDuty Harley edition? That is cool!

Now you are talking about working on relatively flat ground,I bet your Super Duty could not get back into my place to do the work, let alone pull those trailers you are talking about backup here on the hillsides,a dually would be worthless on the off and beaten path, just load the tires up with mud not to mention the lack of clearance.Too tall to pull a trailer? I don't think so,I could pull a trailer anywhere you could pull with that Super Duper duty. I would go up against you any day when it comes to off the road work. Remember there are places you will have to drop that trailer to get on back into the thick of it,you might need a set of slide in cattle racks, tire chains are pretty worthless on a trailer.

Diesel is effectively the same as Kerosene and Jet fuel. Someone mentioned in another thread that some airports use jet fuel in the diesel rigs.

This would tie diesel prices to two things. One, Kerosene is a heating fuel, and second, there is a lot of Jet fuel in use by the US military right now.
Possibly that is why although gas prices have rose and dropped, diesel has not moved as much.

Tic for Tac. Maybe we need a TBN meeting so you two can chain up and see who wins the tug of war /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I REALLY like my Dodge('01 Cummins quad cab 4x4). But, I would say for a work truck, a standard truck would be better than a more specialized Power Wagon or similarily lifted Ford or Chevy. Why?

It is a pain to unload a taller truck. Even my stock 3/4 ton 4x4 is a pain to shovel material out of. You gotta lift stuff high in to it. A shortbed is not much help for most work trucks. Haul 10, or 12' lumber in the short bed, especially after you add tool box at the front of the bed.

The best trailering is done with a lower center of gravity. Lifting a trailer is done often, but is not the most stable setup. Those long drop hitches for lower trailers usaully have lower weight ratings. Tall tires require more brakes; there is more mass rotating that takes more to slow down.

If you want to tow, it would be better with a standard truck than a lifted and big tired truck, whether Chevy, Dodge, or Ford. could this special edition Ram do it? Yes. Is it the best truck for trailering? No.

The Dodge would probably do great out hunting. Or fishing. So would a F250 with a mild lift, lockers, and bigger tires. The Power Wagon is that, kinda like the Jeep Rubicon. Instead of adding aftermarket items, it comes with some nice ones(lockers, winch, lift, ect), and a price tag to go with it.

There is the last point. If you want to go hunting and fishing, and get down the difficult trails, you do it in a Jeep to begin with. Save the truck for work, and put a real trail rig on the trail. Especially when you go between a couple trees or rocks. Jeep squeezes through; Ford/Chevy/Dodge sits there shaking thier head about how that Jeep is 2' narrower and just cruised up the trial. No? Bring the Power Wagon up on Rubicon. Let's see how the sheetmetal is rearranged after going through Little Sluice Box /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Trailering is the only advantage the Ford would have over me and that is on fairly smooth ground, I will trailer anywhere off road the Ford Super Duty will go and the same amount of weight,I might go slower but I still have my gears. I am not into long pulls on the open road but as work truck off road I will out maneuver out distance a standard super duty I am a well tender,I take care of oil/gas wells and the high clearance 3/4 ton is what works for me,I can haul a substantial amount of weight and get back on the ridges through the mud and some rock crawling to carry my tools/casings etc.I have the clearance and I would not want anything less than what I have in height.
He says the truck is not a good work truck,it is all in what you are using it for.Sure the Super Duty would be great pulling on the not so rough roads, but when it comes to the serious off roading/back roads I will do more than a Standard Super Duty, sure a Ford 250 or Chevy with the lift kit and mudders will do as well as the Power Wagon off road, the same as a Chevy or Dodge 3/4 dually will trailer as good as the Ford Super Duty, its all in what your needs are.
