just something I always do hunting is to put a piece or two of electrical tap over end of barrel. keeps out water, snow, dirt, twigs etc.

This is what happens when the bore sight is left in the barrel and you decide to see how accurate it is!!!

There was a thread on AR15.com a few months back showing the effects of a serviceman leaving a cleaning rod in the barrel. Damage was more severe than any of the pics posted of hunting rifles.

Good reason to ALWAYS where some sort of eye protection!

I did see a fellow shoot his loading rod out of a muzzle loader at the range. He just plain forgot where he left it. After firing he was looking all around his bench and then asked me if I had seen his rod. I replied the last I saw it was in the barrel. Upon looking down range we found it in three pieces. Didn't damage the rifle. I wouldn't like to see the same mistake with smokeless.

Someone asked abut the video guy happen to just be there. I think he was there to document his friend shooting an elk, or whatever. To those that don't think a rifle or shotgun barrel will not peel back, what do you think now.

I happen to shoot a 30-06 shell one time and didn't remember I had left a cleaning swab in the barrel to keep the dust out. About 1, to 2 in, from the tip of the barrel, was an obvious bulge. I cut off the top two inches, and rounded off the end of the barrel.

I bought a pistol (Colt army .38 revolver) from Accuracy Gun in San Diego. They sold it to me as parts as it was non-functional due to three (count'em) 3 rounds lodged in the barrel.

We cut it down and crowned it behind the beginning of the bulge, left the sights off and I used it as a training aid for teaching my wife natural point of aim. She got 6 shots into less than a 10 inch circle from 15 feet after a little practice starting with weapon down at her side pointed to ground. We used Speer plastic target bullets and old blankets for a back stop so no neighbors were harmed in the production.

I saw that video in its entirety on another site. After his barrel peals back, he grabs another guys gun and puts down an elk.

The general concensus is that he had water in the barrel.
