Checking to see if I can lift a half-ton machine

   / Checking to see if I can lift a half-ton machine #21
If you can get over the top of the crate, remove your bucket (more lift capacity) and see if you can rig slings or chain around the crate and lift it.
If you are able to lft it, have the trailer/truck driven from under it and lower it to just off the gound and move it.
If you can't lift it, you need a backup plan :D

Now that's using your head!

Folks, thanks for all the replies. The machine will be coming on a liftgate truck, and the truck driver will put it in my garage. I only need to lift it enough to clear the ground so I can move it about 100 feet across level yard to the basement access hatch.

Unfortunately, I cannot use the 3 pt hitch as I have a backhoe mounted on the back (which also is my ballast, possibly with some rocks in the BH bucket for extra weight if needed, and no, I can't even begin to contemplate removing the BH). The weight of the jointer itself is a bit less at 884 lbs than the 1056 lbs shipping weight. So I am hoping if I remove some of the shipping materials, and the jointer fence which is not attached as yet, I can get the weight down to a range within the capacity of my tractor

Here is a link to see the tool if anyone is curious :G0609X 12" Jointer w/ Spiral Cutterhead .

I'll post how things turn out.

Backup plan, well, there's the idea of the rollers (and, yes, I plan to have one of the kids taking pictures). Also, I just got a very kind offer by a fellow TBN-er who lives nearby to try to come over with his much bigger tractor, so that might be plan B. So far, that's the best I've got....

That is a big jointer, and too expensive to drop.

You might also look at the backhoe specifications, although lifting the jointer might have it extended at an odd angle. Just make sure you don't swing it to the side of the tractor while lifting a heavy load.

Ken P: I have a B2400 and have on occasion have removed the bucket, put pipe or rods through the pivot holes in the boom arms, and then used rope tied to the pipe to life objects just enough to move them. You get the full lifting power of the FEL at the pivots, which it appears is significantly more than the weight of your machine. Tie a line from the machine to the radiator guard to stabilize it.

That sounds like a pretty good work around to solve the problem of not enough tractor in this instance and much cheaper than buying a bigger tractor

Oh Wow what a yummy jointer!.. I hope it all works out for you, and you get it safely positioned.

That is a very nice jointer...
Somebody has been a very good boy...LOL
Just a thought...
I would go to Harbor Freight and get some moving dollys...
On sale they are like $8 and have a 1000# with 4 casters...
With an expensive machine like that you could get a couple of them or even 4 and just roll the machine to where you need it...
