Chevron 1000 THF

Confusion on my end also motownbrowne:eek:

Chevron all weather is a full synthetic THF IIRC, as compared to THF 1000 the syn stuff is of course more... I studied tractor hyd. fluids in depth a while back comparing name brands deere, kubota and such to not really learn much other than most of deere oils come from chevron oil. Dealers where of not much help for this, cause no other oils existed but there brands:) I do know ALOT of equipment around these parts use THF 1000 and have nary a problem

I did read somewhere to avoid 'wal-mart/farm supply store' oils, using those names and terms loosely, for bargain type hyd oils not being very consistent of actual oil additives causing issues.

Thanks for the info. I studied my manual and it lists the fluids mentioned above. However it lists nothing with regards to ratings, viscosity or class. It simply states "hydraulic transmission fluid"

Spruce-
Thanks for the info about not being able to learn much about different fluids. At least I don't here anything bad about Chevron except cost....

And since I was wrong about the cost, it should be all good. 70/5 gallons isn't bad at all.

You bet RNeumann. The label on one of the empty buckets I have of thf 1000 has a detailed for "for use in" list also. THF 1000 works good for me and at a reasonable price.

The machine is a Mitsubishi chassis with Mahindra engine and loader. I called the local NAPA and they sold house brand and Valvoline. For some reason Valvoline isn't a choice in the manual. But with nothing listed in the manual regarding a spec I asked if he could order any of the ones on the list. NAPA said no but sent me to a oil distributor I didn't know was in town. They have the Chevron in stock for $52 out the door.
Thanks for all the help. If I find anything on the web that would help explain the different hydraulic oil specs I'll post it here- as I'm still in the dark on some of it.

More folks should locate their nearest local oil disti. I get my THF there, but also my 5W30 motor oil for my
road-going vehicles in 5-gal containers. If you have your containers refilled, then you can often save even
more. Mine are filled from large dispensers kinda like buying gas or diesel.

The key thing for tractors with HST and wet brakes is to use a THF, not a straight hydraulic oil. If a customer
just reads the label, s/he can see what the certified equivalents are. All the name-brand (plus ServicePro) oils list
as many as 50 name-brand equivalent products on their labels.

I have seen generic hyd fluids with no certifications on the label. Don't get that, even if it is only $5/gal. You
can find these at Walmart or TSC, but note that Walmart and TSC also carry certified THFs as well. Read the
labels, and go for special lo-vis THF if you have to.
