The incentive to owning an electric car is lost on the American citizen. We don't have the consistantly high priced gasoline that other countrys have.
I hear people saying produce more oil. We are producing more oil and exporting more refined fuel than any year since 1949. We have an excess of fuel. Oil is a free market commodity. I hear people say that President should do something about the fuel prices.
If the President was able to control fuel prices and set prices we would yell "socialism". Oh. Wait I have heard that. I guess the "socialism" tag only applies to something that benefits other people.
The industrialized countrys are investing in electric and alternative fuel car research and incentives. The U.S. $2.4 billion, China $15 billion other countrys also investing high amounts of money in infrastructure and R&D.

During the 1890's and early part of last century the cars and trucks on the road were electric. Most all delivery vehicles were powered by battery.

Henry Fords' wife only drove electric cars.

Electric cars are the future. Less moving parts and a greater field of development, discovery and invention. Fossil fuels are the past, you might as well go back to whale oil and candles.

I always find it funny that some people buck the future so adamantly. Did we stop running fossil fuels when we found out that smog was causing severe health problems? Did we stop buying gas cars when Ford Pintos were blowing up on impact? Did we stop buying gas cars when they were feeding the coffers of our enemies? No. But some people here are ready to see electrics stop because of problems.
What does that tell you? It tells you that a lot of people are terribly afraid of change and will cling to the past regardless of its futility.

By the way the oil companies, you know the ones dragging you around by ring through your nose, just love you and your inability to change.

Electric cars will bury fossil fuel cars once the bugs are worked out. My hat goes off to Nissan and the Leaf, Ford and the Focus and yes Chevy and the Volt. We need more courage and less myopic middle road fear that seems to envelop to many people and companies today. Where's the thinking that made this country great? If you ever want to see this country come back you better wake up to your fear of change.

I always laugh when people start blaming government officials. Wake up, this isn't a republic it's a corporate oligarchy bought and paid for by lobby money. It stopped being a republic when we gave corporations the rights of individuals. At that point the individual got smothered.
Every time you go the gas pump, every time you fill you home heating fuel, every time you turn on a light you subsidize the corporation and you lose just a little more independence, freedom and individuality.

I'm off the grid, next year I'll be heating my house with alternative energy and the year after that I'll be driving an electric for free. That means the corporation that controls people won't be controlling me, that's how you beat the machine.
Alternate energy is the people's energy because it liberates you from the corporate strangle hold.
How many people here think corporate oil wants you to drive an electric car? That's the last thing they want you to do. They never want to see a solar panel on your roof because that means you don't need them. Well I don't and they will feed the lemmings pabulum like some people spew here in an attempt to create fragmentation, to divide. It's the old saw, "Divide and concur". How stupid can we be? If you would read all of the posts concerning new permitted oil drilling since Obama took office you would see that the oil companys have the permits they don't have the incentive. There is too much oil being produced and oil prices are not high enough to drill for more. Oil companys have no reason to drill for more cheap oil.

The price of fuel will go up and down, up and down the problem is it will never go down to the level where it started.

You make it sound like the President enjoys seeing high prices. The U.S. uses 20% of the worlds oil. United States Crude Oil Production and Consumption by Year (Thousand Barrels per Day) He is preparing America for a reality check when he promotes alternative vehicles.

Corporation's are building your solar panels, (in China), the light bulbs, wiring, batteries, just to name a few things that you will depend on Corp's for. And last but not least, Some corporation is going to build that electric car that you drive. Your not going to get the supplies, material and tools to your building site without that Rotten, obsolete Oil.

You have no legitimate arguement. All I see is inuendo and finger pointing without factual comparison and capacity of other Presidents goals and accomplishments. What I do see is a bias that can not proceed beyond a mans skin.

Take your bias to the political forum and let us discuss the merits of the product, not the policy. Products survive on their own benefits to the consumer. Benefits aren't always recognized by the public. Some things don't catch on till there is no alternative.

Well, you won't be going far in your electric car, that's for sure, horse might be better than an electric car. The government knows that freedom to travel is key to controlling you and you took the bait, hook line and sinker. I however will keeping being free from the grid in my diesel car, that's what cars are all about breaking free from your home and traveling, some people just don't understand. You want to live your life at the end of an extension cord that's fine for you, not me. Not sure you don't really understand who the lemming is.
