Chickens aren't laying

It took a couple weeks of fiddling with the amount of light before I gave up and just gave them dusk-dawn light. From there it was several days before they started laying more. All in all it was a couple weeks of additional light before they started laying more. I wouldn't give up after a week.

i think i mentioned but ill say it again. my read heat lamp (to keep water from freezing, shines down on the water about 3' from the floor, while the girls start roosting at about 5' up to 6') runs from about 4pm to 10am overnight.

The red light doesn't help with egg regulation, you need something that mimics daylight.

Put a 100W white light in and run it on a timer so you get about 12 hours per day of simulated daylight. The red light may be too close to them. If they congregate in a circle at the edge of the light it is too hot for them.

I had the same problem a few years ago, and it was during the winter also. I didn't know what their problem was, so i asked a farmer
that i knew down the road what was wrong with them.

And the first thing he asked me, are you using a light in their house.

I started using a 60-watt light bulb that same day, but it took a week

before they started laying again.

My wife has got some chickens that are 11-12 years old,didn't know they lived that long,they still lay every now and than but their eggs are so tough I ain't ate one in 4-5 years.
