Choices: 2710 or 2900

After reading these discussion threads for weeks, no MONTHS, you all have convienced me that the Kubota is the one to buy.... now all i have to do is figure out which one. I'm talking with two owners selling used tractors which are listed below. I have 5AC of which 2 are pasture, 2 are woods and 1 is lawn. Rolling hills in some spots. Would like to do some 'excavation' work down in the creek bed and hoping I can do that with a tiller and FEL. Will also want to be 'finish' mowing the acre and perhaps the pasture. Also, moving a lot of 'stuff' from one place to another.
My question is this: For the type of work I'll be doing, this much land, this type of terrain, etc. which model is best for (a) getting the jobs done; (b) safety; (c) price to value ratio?

The tractors under consideration are as follows:
#1 - 1999- B2710, 61 Hrs, FEL & toothbar, Granger Box Blade.
Asking price of $14,245.
#2 - 2000 - B2910, 175 Hrs, NO FEL, NO Implements.
Asking price of $10,500.

My other choice is to go with a B7500 from a great dealer in Dunn, NC. Carver Equipment Co.

If I were you I would go with the 2910, don't quote me but I think you should be able to get a FEL and a box blade for $4000 and as most will tell you get the most HP you can get. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif The hours on both are very low ask some questions as to why? As a point of reference I bought my B-7500 in 2001 and the tractor alone was $9700 add $2700 for the FEL do not own a box blade and do not know about cost.
Test each out and keep us updated on your decision.

Hi,

A hundred hours difference is not much. I have 135 hours on my B2910 and I got it last August.

The toothbar is worth about $300, maybe a little more. The box blade...my cheap one cost $300, but they do go up in price with weight and quality.

If I were you I would contact a dealer and get the price for a loader, with the control valve, maybe even installed. This number should make it possible to compare the two better.

Sounds like the 2910 might have an edge, but your eye should tell you what to do after you know what it will cost to add the loader to the 2910...

Good luck in your decision. Either tractor will be a good one in my opinion. I am not sure really how much difference the 3 hp really makes...I do

do beleive u can add a fel, toothbar, and box blde for $4000 which makes the price equal, and u do get a few more hp. on the other hand the 2710 is already outfitted so there will be no extra effort neeeded on your part, and the 27 should handel all you need for 5 ac. it is really just a judgement call. personally i would opt for the 2910.

I agree with the others. If you can get a loader and box blade for $4000 or less, go with the 2910. My previous tractor was a 2710 and though it was fine for most everything, there were times that I wished I had had the 3 extra HP.

As far as application goes, what tires are each equipped with and what transmission. I would not want ag tires for finish mowing and I also wouldn't want turf tires for landscaping / loader work. I personally own a 2710 but would love to have the extra features and hp of the 2910 if equipped properly. Good luck.

Yukon is right. I also have the 2710. If I had it to do over again I would have spent the extra $1000 and gotten the 2910. They are basically the same tractor except for 3 extra HP, better steering wheel, teloscopic/ tilt steering wheel. The seat had a suspension mount, but the most important difference in my opinion is the teloscopic lower links for the 3 point hitch. They are sooo nice and save alot of hassle when hooking up to a mower/rotary cutter/whatever. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif For what you are going to be doing, either one is a good fit, and both will except a backhoe (which I finally got, but that's another story). /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

One thing to keep in mind....it's been mentioned that there is "only" a 3 hp difference. In a 30 hp tractor, that's 10 percent, a pretty sizable difference to me.

I, too, will vote for the 2910. I really like mine, and it has done a lot of work without any problems. I wavered back and forth between the 2710 and 2910 for months, and finally went with the 2910. The size is perfect, and with the 402 loader, it is a real workhorse. I would highly recommend the R4 tires. They do very well under nearly all conditions, and have enough tread to do minimum damage to a lawn. The hours sound about right for a tractor which has done some work without being pushed.
