That's exactly the problem I'm having. It didn't happen when I bought it because the fuel was low. I filled it (not all the way) and I was driving it and saw gas all over the tank and said hmm, I swear I only spilled about 3 drops. Well, it happened again on Saturday when I brought it out to put on the choke rod and steering wheel (it is parked tight in my corncrib right now, an exact fit lengthwise and only about 1.5 inches on each side of the door so I took it outside to work on it). Thanks for that info.

It's also getting a new gear shift knob. Little things for now. I suppose I should change all the fluids and filters too. Without an hour meter it is going to be hard to tell when I should be doing maintenence.

Depending on hours, I found it best to do yearly. On both my Farmall A and Kubota B8200, I change fluids and filters annually. Do that for mowers etc too. I don't put a lot of hours on them(50-75) a year, but the crankcase gets moisture and corrosives building up, as a by product of combustions etc.

As long as you are getting a new gear shift knob, make sure the seal on the gear shift is good too. Uncovered tractor have been known to have water seep past gear shift seals and get in to the tranny.

Yep.. i got one for my 66 cub. As long as your SN hasn't already had one applied for, you should be in business. They are big honkin and ugly.. but heck.. if it's a recall item and free.. go for it.

Roxy, you can get a free gas cap from Farmall. I ordered one for a Farmall C that I have and it came within 2 weeks and it's free. The origional gas cap would splash fuel onto the outside of the tank causing a fire hazzard, so they decided to give any qualified Farmall owner a free gas cap.

Use the link and submit your model and serial number and a new gas cap will be on the way. Later, Nat

The gas cap came yesterday. It is a weird design. It fit though. May as well use it, free cap and free shipping. If I ever do restore the tractor maybe I can just put a new gasket in the old cap. I am amazed they would even offer a new gas cap considering the age of these tractors. But, thanks for that info, guys, you saved me a few bucks.

My new friend over at the Case/IH dealership got me a new muffler with a rain cap, too. I had only asked for a rain cap, but the new muffler sure looks nice.

RN: You can find those gas caps on ebay that go for up to $15 or so. You can get a Stanley muffler from TSC for about $20couple, what did the Case IH charge you? Used to be if you could find an original Farmall/IH muffler, it would go for $75. PS, the gas cap (mine for the 230 came "black". I've seen them painted Farmall Red (PPG 2150) and they look good. Mine's still black. BobG in VA

I just took the free gas cap from the recall. It is black and that tall design.

The muffler was a gift so it didn't cost me anything and he probably got it for cost. It looks like the ones on ebay that cost around $20. The muffler I had on there wasn't an original muffler. I don't think it has any value whatsoever, so it will go into the next pile of scrap metal I take in.

I am still trying to hunt down a PTO shield, used, in reasonable condition. A battery box would be good, too. I know I can get them (reproduction) pieces from a variety of places but I don't necessary want to spend $80 for a battery box or $45 for a PTO shield. If I was going to restore it soon, then I'd probably just buy the new pieces, but it will probably be a few years. Old pieces, I figure, can be sanded and painted along with the rest of the tractor.

I do really like the tractor and it is fun to drive and use!

Anyone know why the new gas caps are so tall?

Rox, you may want to check with Valu-Bilt: Ford Tractor Parts John Deere Parts Used Parts Case
I have ordered a good bit of stuff from them and have never had a problem with them. They have new and used parts for most any tractor. I order the decals sets for any old tractor that I paint from them, lots of repair parts, seat covers, ect. They have always been more than fair with me. If you call them they will send you a free catalog, which is handy for looking up any parts you may need. Later, Nat

Thanks for that info, Nat. One of the things I will be delving into soon is to find out why the lights (definitly not original) aren't hooked up and whether the battery/amp gauge is not hooked up either or whether it doesn't work. The tractor has a 12 volt conversion so it may have something to do with that. It is getting dark out so early now and it would be nice to have some lights. When I first got it, a friend wanted to drive it down the road but it was almost dark and I had to say, not tonight.

I actually didn't run the tractor when the old muffler was off. Maybe I should have just to see what it sounded like. I did run it after I put the new muffler on and to be honest, I didn't notice any change in sound other than from the rain cap tapping lightly. I should have leveled and tightened that rain cap before I put the muffler on though. It was so tall I had to climb up the tractor and sit on the hood to do it. Which, by the way, is not real comfortable with that hump for the steering rod. I may also need to mount a step to the frame for filling the gas. To fill it with gas, I put it in the back yard, backed my truck up to it and stood on the tailgate. Not a bad idea since then I didn't have to carry heavy 5 gal. gas cans over to it, but probably not the most convenient way to do it. I'm sure if anyone saw me, they were laughing and thinking, lady, that tractor is just too tall for you:D. I have been getting weird looks when I'm on it from anyone driving by. They are staring with their mouths hanging open. The Yanmar doesn't quite get that reaction. That attracts people to stop and ask about it; probably because they've never seen one. I have come to realize many people don't know there are any compact tractors other than Kubotas. They ask, "Well, what is this? It's like a real tractor, only smaller." And I say, "That's exactly what it is. It's a compact tractor." Then they say, "Oh, is it like a Kubota?"

Rox, a guy over on yesterday's tractors has made wiring diagrams of all the old Farmalls. They are talked about a lot over there as( Bob M's wiring) Robert Melville ois his name and a google search has a page with all of them. I have used them to check the wiring on my old C Farmall, maybe they can helf you on the H. Later, Nat
