Choosing between orange and green

- kubota L 3540 hsdc,B 2320 hsdc & lots of other stuff!
Among the many things i like about kubota, they, like mack trucks build the motor, the tranny,the platform etc. Not too many manufacturers can make that claim these days.

I'm starting to lean towards the other orange these days, based on what you get for the money. My biggest hangup is I don't like the way their backhoe attaches, and I can't get a woods backhoe on their cab tractor. I test drove one the other day, it was nice. My advice is try them all and get the one you are the happiest with.

I spent all day yesterday sitting on and inspecting Green/Yellow tractors and the Orange ones. Around here the JDs are a bit cheaper, but I don't like the darned plastic hood and bumpers on the JDs. Call me crazy, but I feel like a tractor needs to be made of metal. I don't see the plastic holding up as well in the long run. Example: I almost bought a used JD, but noticed the gas cap and the hood were held on by bungee cords. The owner said he dropped the gas can on it one day when filling the tank. Now it doesn't seem right you can break a part of a tractor that easily, does it? As of now I am leaning towards the Kubota. For a bit more cash it seems like a sturdier machine and has a bit more 'finish' for the money.

I went to jump up on a Kubota (32XX) the other day and thought I was going to pull the fender off. Surprised me how much flex there was there and then the give on the step as well. They all have their perceived downfalls in our eyes, buy the one you like best and feel the most comfortable with the dealer. At the time (six years ago) I bought Kioti after having Kubota's for 21 years.

One excellent point in this thread, unfortunately not necessarily related to the OP topic is:
If machines were built today with the relative quality of yesterday they'd be unaffordable.
That is a very interesting point. How is it that that may be the case?
Have costs really outpaced income that much?
My 1970's Kubota B6000e was a tank, very simple, very very reliable and very strong for it's size.
My Kioti is similar in many ways, but I can't see the electronics or the like lasting anywhere hear as long as my old Kubota did??

I've felt for years that income has not kept up with inflation. If you look at the cost of a house in our area in 1960 vs today, they cost 20x what they did then. A Camero cost around $2500 then and $20-25K today, 10x increase. What did a pack of cigarettes cost in 1960? $7 today. Gasoline, $.20? Today, $3.85. I did the same job as my father did and the income today is double what it was in 1960. Five years ago, I went to work for one of the local cities. Our annual pay increase (COLA) is based on 90% of the local inflation rate. I firmly believe that our buying power decreases each year.

Jangles when I was looking the only deere product i would consider was the 790 because it did not have a plastic hood. I have a deere mower and the plastic breaks easily and is expensive. I ended up buying a used Mahindra tractor which had a dent in the hood. I took the hood off, laid it upside down on the work bench, used a rubber mallet, and sprayed with Mahindra red. Almost good as new. After having both plastic and metal I much prefer metal.
