CHRISTMAS DAY 2005

Nope, no tractor toys.... not even a 3pt snow blower. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

But Santa did bring me a new pair of snow shoes. I'll need them to get out and debranch the white pines so I can collect the state cost sharing money my forester signed me up for.

And we did have the three daughters and one grandson here for the weekend. I cooked enough for them to bring back a bunch of leftovers. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Had to work Christmas day but the family all waited to open there gifts and eat after I got in. I got socks, t shirts and flannel P J's. The best part was watching the boys open there presents. Memories are the best gifts ever. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Of course I now have to put together a soccer table. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif To bad I can't use the tractor for that.
Have a great year!

Normally, our house pays homage to the phrase "Nothing exceeds like excess" on Christmas. This year we decided to play it differently.

We just moved to a new house. The wife and I went out last week and bought new drapes for the living room, a new oriental rug for the same room, and a couple new ceiling lights. That was our Christmas to each other.

My sister gave us an antique mantel clock that belonged to my parents. She has had it for years. She thought it'd look better on our mantel. It was the best material gift I've got in years. That made it another type of gift in my mind. (Family love) That can't be beat.

Every Christmas for as long as I can remember, the Mrs. made up dinners for the old folks in our church. She always delivered them while I was feeding the cows in the afternoon. This year I went with her. I know now why she's done it for so long. That was about as rewarding of a feeling as I've ever got from ANYTHING.

All in all, we had the best Christmas I can ever remember!

I sure hope you all did too!

Yep, Mom got me a Pat's Easy Change. OK, I had to just a little bit of prodding on that one since she didn't even know what was. I even had to order from here at TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Christmas was OK, but unfortunately all 4 of us are sick. Monica has been sick since about Wednesday. Kids have been coughing since about then as well. Mine started Christmas Eve at about 3:30. Just like somebody flipped a switch. I've been running a fever since then, so no playing with the Pat's yet. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Now that's Christmas spirit! Not quite as inspiring as your story, but I spent most of Christmas eve at the in-laws upgrading their computer, then went to the S&BILs and set up his new one. I enjoy eating pie and chit-chatting as much as the next guy, but was having such satisfaction getting things running for them that I lost track of time (until my wife reminded me my mother would be expecting us soon), left two hours late, and forgot entirely about my pie! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My favorite gift this Christmas is the present my wife found for me; Jelly Roll Morton - The Complete Library of Congress Recordings by Alan Lomax. I've only had the opportunity to listen to one CD out of the eight and I am absolutely thrilled. They did a fabulous job remastering the original recordings. It is a very impressive collection.

But that isn’t my favorite part of Christmas… every year we hold a Charity Christmas Dressage Show where all proceeds go directly to charity. Our judges waive their fees and donate their time while our friends and family volunteer their efforts to make it the most anticipated show of the year.

This year we were able to raise $2,500. Five hundred dollars was used to buy ten $50 grocery gift cards that the Church distributes to those families in need. The rest of the money was given to a very brave woman. She is battling a very aggressive form of kidney cancer, which has spread to her liver, lungs, and pelvis. She is currently enrolled in an experimental treatment program, which means her health insurance has left her high and dry. She is faced with mounting medical bills, no insurance, and she has exhausted her allowable sick leave. Our thoughts and prayers are with her always.

I’ve always enjoyed the giving part of Christmas far more then the getting. Being able to put a smile on a loved one's face is the greatest gift of all.

I love to hear about people helping others. Of course I went to the nursing home to visit my Mother early Christmas morning, then went back in the late afternoon to take a lot more food than she could eat. And of course, my daughter, son-in-law, a brother, nieces and nephews went by to see her at different times during the day. During the week before Christmas, I made 30# of fudge and took for the employees to snack on.

But it's heartbreaking to see how many of the "residents" have no visitors; even on Christmas Day.

Not really tractor toys, but I received a new JD hat, desk calender and the new Hallmark JD ornament for the tree. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My Daughter and SIL got me a John Deere Tshirt and American Farmer game. That kinda counts I guess. I grew up 25 miles north of Moline & Rock Island so I have always been partial to Deere & Co. even though I have two Massey's.

I got to sit in my new recliner and watch the kids open their gifts. We talked to my oldest who is in the Air Force twice during the day which was a treat. He told us just a few days ago that we are going to be Grandparents in August. He is in Minot, ND. He deployed this past year and will most likely going again sometime next summer. I hope he is home for the birth. I remember his like it was yesterday.

My wife got me some Johnsered winter logging boots with caulks. They are ugly as sin but I am kind of a safety nut after cutting my hand pretty bad a few years back so they are beautiful to me. I got tired of slip sliding around while cutting firewood on the woodlot.

We will be going up to Pittsfield to the TSC this week some time and I plan to pick up a few things, nothing big.

The gifts that were the biggest hit were three friction powered race cars that I got for the kids at home. Mind you, the youngest is 15 and the oldest is 25 so watching them race these was a riot. I got them off the back of a Kellogs box for free.

I ate so much that I thought I was gonna bust then I topped it off with my wife's award winning (truly)apple pie and ice cream.

All in all it was a very merry Chrstmas

I received the John Deere American Farmer computer game from my wife. I just stopped playing it long enough to check in on TBN.
