christmas snow

Roy, how did the plowing go? I'm only a county away, and the 6 or so inches of snow we got was probably the worst consistency to work with I can remember. The stuff was so heavy and "packable" that I needed to use the FEL on a lot of it.................chim

Well, it was blowing here pretty hard (hate getting a face full of snow....and it buggers up my glasses!) until about 9:00 PM so, I waited until this morning. Looks nice and crispy out there now...
As soon as I finish my coffee, I'll be heading out to plow!

We got about 15" of the white stuff! Here are some photos (had to put the tractor in there!) My son is hard at work on his new half-pipe that we made with the kubota! Talk about extra seat time! had to plow half the back yard to get enough snow! Piled it up as high as the bucket would allow.

Sorry...wifey was still sleeping while I was doing the plowing. No one to take the pics...

In response to Chim...plowing wasn't a problem, but while shoveling I saw what you meant by consistency....inconsistency might be a better word. Looks like we got a couple inches of snow, then sleet or ice, then all snow. Was tough to break up the icy stuff!!!

But, the ol' 670 just pushed it's way through on the drive.

The pic shows the drive from the front porch. You can see (barely) a telephone pole just to the left of center (in the pic). That pole is about 10 feet short of the end of the drive.

I really love pushing the stuff but I'm not real good at using the FEL to pick it up. Mostly, I use the bucket to back drag from the garage doors and off the road at the end of the drive. Although I'll take the tractor on the road, I don't like to in snowy conditions if possible. Those snowmobiles come flying over the hill too quick for me to get out of the way. The great majority of the plowing is done with a rear blade.

Roy, the snow we got was nothing like I'm used to seeing. It was so heavy and packed so quickly that the rear blade wanted to ride on top. Pushing backwards (to work with snow that had no traffic over it) didn't even work well, and this is with the heavier of two blades. Being able to apply some down pressure on the FEL was what saved the day..................chim

It took multiple passes for me to clean up. You're right about this being a "packable" snow. Must have been some rain/freezing rain mixed in.
I believe my 670 is somewhat heavier then your 7500...that may have helped too.
Having a part asphalt/part gravel drive prevents me from going down to the bare ground. I tear up the drive enough as it is. Of course, what's left melts fairly quickly.

Took about an hour and a half to clear the drive and parking area. Of course, I could have finished in an hour...but I love plowing snow (get a job with PennDOT??).

What part of Lancaster County are you in, Chim? I'm in Windsor, about a mile or so off Rt. 624.

10 inches! Is that why it seemed like so much /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif The original forecast was no snow on Christmas, then 2-4 inches and we finally ended up with 10 inches! Sure is pretty and my first "real" chance to plow the drive /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I'm only about 5 minutes WNW of Columbia. One of my brothers-in-law bought a farm in York Co mebbe a year and a half ago. Right now I can't remember the name of the town he's near, but the farm is on Creek Road. It's on the other side of York from your place.

Way back when I just got out of high school, I drove a truck for a printing company and got through your area regularly. Often ran to York, Red Lion, Brogue and back through Long Level. Gotta run....................chim

Yup David, they're all on X-10 /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Thanks for the compliments. My wife already has plans for next year when the porch railing is up. I suspect I'll have to get some more X-10 hardware to go along with her ideas /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
