Chryslers grandson wants to save the brand

Monkey see, monkey do...

What always intrigues me, that though the USA is the land of freedom and personal responsibility, i cannot watch any vehicle commercial that doesnt write a disclaimer "dramatization is applied. Professional driver on a closed court. Do not try at home"
We in Europe, in the eyes of Americans, are supposed to be safeguarded by a maternalising government, dont have those disclaimers in commercials, or it must be really something crazy that the vendor decides to put "do not try this at home" to avoid public outrage if some dumb kids decide to do so...

I mean, Europe and the USA are different when it comes to personal liberty... but the difference isnt as black and white as some make it out to be, sometimes you see remarkable details that contradict the common preconceptions... 😉
Litigation is much more difficult in most of Europe. Upfront court fees you don't get back if you lose.
Court can make a sensible judgement based on precedent to throw the case out.

Here it's a way of life for some people :(
Most likely every safety warning can be traced back to an actual lawsuit.

Way off topic, but had a contractor I knew, that had worked in Reykjavik Iceland, relaying hot water lines. He told me they laid a 2x10 board from road to the door, and people walked over the board to shops. Here, that would be an engineered, ADA complaint pathway, smooth and all weather, with raised pedestrian barricades.

But, England, you can't have a pointed knife to cut your steak...

Pictures please.
Okay, here are few. The first of the common SEE, which they made some 2,800 of. A Case 580 on the back and a Schmidt loader. I had three at one point, but only one came with the hydraulic hammer drill, pavement breaker, and chainsaw.

Some 280 of the HMMH were made, and I had two for a while. It's a Cascade forklift and now I don't remember who made the knuckle boom crane. They came with a hydraulic impact, which some might have spotted in the photo of airing up a SEE.

Last but not the least, the HME. Only 13 made and I've heard of another one possibly being in Oklahoma but haven't been able to verify that. Came with a hydraulic post hole digger. Vermeer trencher and Schmidt blade.

This one's for sale, by the way.

I notice you like to talk non-stop criticism of the USA. What we drive, our equipment, etc.

Want to talk smack about freedom to own firearms in EU compared to the USA? ;)
Sports?
Military prowess?

I have been to and like many parts of Europe, but the EU’s problems I wouldn’t trade for the US’s problems. I have hosted college age women from Europe here in my home and most of them, without prompting, say they love it here and would like to stay.

I came here on a business trip, and very reluctantly since I hate flying.

After about a week I asked myself "What the heck am I doing in Europe?!?" A few months later I arrived in the USA with everything that would fit in my Jeep.

USA may be different in litigation outcomes for personal injuries. Not uncommon to see attorney billboard advertising personal injury lawsuits besides the major roads.
Yes, an urban legend told in pubs years ago, was that in America, a woman sued a microwave manufacturer because her cat that got rained on, died in the microwave when she tried to dry it: Nowhere in the manual was written that a microwave should not be used for drying wet cats.

...i suppose its made up, but you never know. Only the excesses make it to our news sources 😉

I am just reading an online attorneys magazine: We dont have the "pre-trial discovery" so it is much harder here to get self-incriminating evidence from a corporation. Also, the absence of socialised healthcare makes it more logical to sue a company for damages. And that often, when astronomical damages are awarded by a jury, a judge will often override that and reduce it to more realistic numbers. In Europe we dont have a jury, only a judge. Him/her being a professional, reduces the risk of a verdict based on emotional appeal to the jury. On the other hand, when a technocrat judge decides your fate, a jury also puts in some empathy.
Also, when a victim is with the back up against the wall because the medical bills will bankrupt him/her, the incentive to sue is greater because there is more at stake. Court cases in Europe are more about compensation for loss of quality of life, than about actual cost of medical bills or loss of income due to disability.

Cant speak for all of Europe, but in Holland, loser pays all legal fees, the process costs, as well as the opponents lawyers. This encourages people to analyse risk vs reward before filing a lawsuit. This in contrast with the "no cure no pay" principle in the USA, where the decision to file suit, depends more on the risk vs reward analysis of the plaintiffs lawyer, than on the risk vs reward analysis of the plaintiff him/herself.

Very interesting matter !

I point out an exclusion to the general rule which i find interesting. I point out many differences, i even call our social insurance system a joke because i payd 1/3 of my salary for 20 years, so far only had 2 weeks of unemployment benefits, untill i incurred brain damage in an accident 2 years ago. With the length of bureacracy i have found myself in before i could get my own money back now i need it, i would rather have had it in the bank because if i work retirement age of 68, i would still be a nett contributor. I have no idea where the government put it !

Exchange students sometimes are afraid when they sleep over in the West of the country when storms hit. Theyve heard about the 1953 floods, and are uneasy knowing their bed is 5 feet under sea level.

And vice versa, some Dutch exchange students are uneasy when they hear anything at night, knowing you guys have bears snakes and crocs.

You dont have to take these differences as personal criticism. 😉

I don’t, but they’re a little too strong in the USA direction at times and it gets annoying. Might want to keep in mind you are on a website that’s 99% Americans.
Although we are not above criticism, it does get tiring at times.

I have always said i dont discriminate at all, because i crack jokes at everybody equally: Germans, Americans, Belgians, Asians, blacks, gays, queers, motorgangs, rednecks, Friesians, Flemish, also myself.

Even though both in Europe as in the USA, free speech is under attack by confused people who cant decide whether they want to piss while standing or piss while sitting and instead, try to decide -our- speech: call me whatever you want, but humor is free speech, and people in the Middle East with neither free speech nor humor (these always go hand in hand) are far worse off than us 😏👍

Realistically, their best bet is to transfer a lot of their debt to one brand, and bankrupt it, and let it die; allowing the remaining brands to continue, and attempt to recover. Might allow them to break the union contracts, and all; but the biggest thing they need to do is, Make Vehicles people want.

I've watched several videos on the massive over production and sitting inventory; and that's a real problem. They need to cut that inventory loose, somehow, and will need to drastically cut prices to unload it; BUT that kills the next 3-5 years of sales. Who is going to pay $65k for a 2025, if you can pick up an over stock 2024 for $45k? The other auto makers are probably also going to lobby hard to prevent these over stocks from being sold below market rate; cause if an F150 is $65, and Ram is $45, Ford isn't going to sell.

I see a US Gov buy out, and shipping the existing stock overseas to keep the market stable. That way the only people to get hurt are the US people, and noone cares about them
