I havent seen a Nauga around for years..They are as rare as pallets in fields..
Course you haven't. Real naugahide has been replaced with simulated naugahides for the past 30 years.

PETA, the animal rights organization, was formed in 1980 and began a crusade to save the Nauga. PETA claimed that Naugas, a distant relative of the African Gnu (Wildebeest), nocturnally unseen roam the USA ranging from Connecticut to Wisconsin. PETA also claimed 10,000 Naugas had allegedly been slaughtered to cover love seats, because of their non-stainable skin.
During the 1990s while Professor Obama taught at the University of Chicago Law School, Barack and Michelle participated in many "SAVE THE NAUGA" demonstrations in downtown Chicago IL.
A fact-finding commission hearing was held by the USFWS. After listening to PETA, the manufacturer's arguments and considering the testimony of a White House staffer about the president's previous actions a decision was made to recommend placing the Nauga on the ESL.
USFWS is warning Americans that the couch and recliner chair in their dens covered with Naugahyde may be confiscated anytime. Additionally, the owner may be subject to a $10,000 per day fine for trafficking

James . I have a Dentist friend and could get some laughing gas. help shave the coon and then give to Zoo for laughing hyenia animal.

I just skinned a '"Lazy boy" chair last week. This is where the Naugha thought came from. Must be distance cousin.

from experience.. welding gloves are not enough!
my mom used to have a real mean cat. the only way the vet would give it it's shots is of you brought someone to hold the cat down.
I showed up with a good ( not cheap ) set of heavy padded gloves. that cat, ont he first bite, went right thru and into the middle digit of my finder like i wasn't even wearing gloves. I'd wager a coon has about the same mouth parts.

True story. Walking in the woods 60 years ago or more came to tree with a baby coon about one quart in size. and decided to catch and tame it.
climbing up tree it would go higher so did I until about 20 ' off the ground the coon was out on a short limb. took off my belt to make a loop to put around the coons neck. Then that animal turned into a ball of screaming, scratching, with teeth everywhere and my retreating down the tree turned into branches getting yanked off on the way down to ground. Gave it the belt as a trophy of the event. went home looking like a tornado had settled on my head. No body felt sorry and others in school made fun of the experance. But also know no one else tried to out do coon catching idea.

My grandfather taught me how to hunt and trap coons...which I did for extra money in high school...1958 thru 1961. A coon, wounded, trapped or not, is extremely fast, can turn around inside its skin and give you a dime change while biting you in places you never even knew you had places.
Extremely tenacious and with lots of stamina. There is no place you can grab a live wild coon and not get severely punished.
I can totally believe the story above, ken, ...and enjoyed reading it...
Guess this thread is about as catholic as it can get...chupacabra to euthanasia to naugas to peta to POTUS to FLOTUS, to ESL, to stain free love seats...should be a CW song!!

We have those things out on our deck every single night it's over -10 F outside for the last 20 years. I have seen them do just about everything including goose-pile brawls. Not once did I ever see one make a face like old Ricky here. That is one massively po'ed raccoon you have there.
