Citizen Band radios?

Ultra, odds are that it is an old marine VHF radio. Might still work, but if it is your boat, throw it out, and buy a newer one. You can get a new decent one for under 200 bucks. Maybe below 150 bucks.

It went with the boat when I sold it...

Never knew why... but several people told me it was now illegal to use it because it took up too much band width???

For the bridge tenders I used a simple handheld that worked very well.

My understanding, was HAM's went silent during the war?
You may be right Robert, I seem to remember my folks speaking about it on more than one occasion, but that was a long time ago. I think some of his equipment is still in a building on my cousin's property, mostly homemade - as I would expect much of it from the early days to be.

Reading this thread reminded me I didn't know the model number (It's a model 23 Plus) of the Cobra I installed in my tow vehicle back in '95. For some reason I purchased the handheld model, which is still in the factory packaging, it has never been used. Info on the front says "All Cobra Products Year 2000 Date Compliant" so I must have purchased it back then.

Man...I have not thought of CB Radios for YEARS...

What's the farthest skip anyone has done? I hear NorCal, New York, and Mexico pretty regular. I got out to NorCal once, but he could barely make out Mississippi. I'm two hours north of New Orleans.
Well when conditions where right I worked most of the USA states from Australia on a 11mtr CB

Well, I guess I have 4 options - (1) There was another type radio he was communicating with? (2) He had a Professional license? Such a thing? (3) My memory is failing me. and Lastly (4) He was just a criminal LOL.
Thanks for all the info!
