Citizen Band radios?

Only the FCC has jurisdiction on radios and such, not local LEO.

Not having jurisdiction over something doesn't always stop LEOs

1) They might not know they don't have jurisdiction.

2) They might not care.

3) Reminding them might make it worse!

I see mention of "license" in this thread, I believe regarding CB (not just ham), but I find this on the FCC website:

Background

The Citizens Band (CB) Service dates back to the 1940s when the FCC established the service for short-distance communications by individuals and businesses. Over the years, changes occurred to the service such as adding additional channels and ç”°lasses of services, however, the general use of the service remains the same. The interest in CB radios peaked in the 1970s and up until 1983 the FCC required an individual license to operate a CB device.

Licensing

The Citizens Band (CB) Service is licensed by rule. This means an individual license is not required to operate a CB device. You can operate a CB device regardless of your age and for personal or business use so long as you are not a representative of a foreign government.

What's the deal?

The deal is if you get in your time machine and go back to prior to 1983, you need a license for CB.

If you are operating a CB radio in the present, no license is needed... as long as you are not a representative of a foreign government

Never knew there were so many hams on here

G'day VK5KRR

tip of the iceberg.. there was a thread last year, that asked Hams to identify themselves, and there were dozens, Some obvious like myself in the username or sig line, some that showed up when asked and some that said they were but did not want to give a call-sign, to remain anonymous . I think there are more percentage wise on here than in the general population, but I have no proof of that.

As far as I know all the references to license was to Amateur Radio license. CB has not required a license for a long time, and even then hardly anyone bothered with one.

My Grandfather started when they became available, but had been HAM for years before.

"The Old Cowpoke" KLA-1624 was his handle.

CB is how I got started in radios. I then moved to Ham radio about 12 years ago. Its a great way to communicate and find new friends in your area with similar electronics and other interests.

yeah I didn't even remember those. on 6 meters

I love to work 6 meters SSB and CW during E season. It is amazing what you can do with 100 watts and a chunk of wire or a simple vertical.
