CK20 Running hot

rule of thumb is 5 hp per foot of mower. Just spinning it without cutting takes hp.

Based on that 'rule' you're over loading your machine by about 40%.

And it's over heating by about 40%. Reasonable. There's a difference between what a tractor will do and what it will do comfortably.

my Cub Cadet lawn tractor has a 46 inch cut and has 22 hp, and a lot less weight to carry.

I know the diesel has much more torque but Cub put a 22 hp engine in it for a reason.

My understanding is that "5hp per foot rule" applies to rotary cutters (brush hogs) not to finish mowers. This is why Kioti specifies that the CK20 will run a 60" finish mower, but, only a 48" rotary cutter. There is also considerable anecdotal evidence that tractors of this size can (and do) run mowers of this size without difficulty. Anyway, my point is, I don't think that's the problem. Anybody know of a cross reference for Kioti thermostat part #"s?

Where do you see the Kioti specification for that?

I suppose in low range only you would be fine but I know from personal experience that a CK 20 will labour with a 5' finish mower in high range on anything but flat ground and one week of growth.

Hey Swede....I don't know about a cross reference, but I did find something on Tractor Joe's site. The part number listed here, is for a CK30, and I know your CK20 thermostat part number is different, but if you look at all the applications of this replacement part, you will see the CK20 listed. When I replaced my CK30's thermostat, I bought a Stant #13848 (180*). So if this linked page is correct, and that thermostat will work in all of the listed tractor models, the Stant number I mentioned will also.

Specification is in the owners manual.

Hey Swede, It just occurred to me that you may not know about free online parts catalogs for Kioti tractors. I use the one from MIE but several other dealers host them too. The part numbers are all the same but different dealers have their own prices. From the entry page, use the look-up by model on the left side (the quick look-up on the right side seldom works. I don't know the exact year/model of your CK20 but here's a link to the page for the thermostat for a plain Jane CK20.
