To the OP, another caution would be how you're using the tip of the Stihl bar/chain. That's asking for kickback, at least the way it appears in your pic. Be careful of that; either get lower to the stump or dig out around it to be able to get more of the bar into the stump- next time. Put on some chaps and chainsaw boots, logging helmet too. If you're working alone you're in danger, all it takes is one wrong move or a millisecond of inattention. And I'm not a safety police kinda guy, but I've worked professionally with saws and know what can happen to even those with lots of experience.

As far as ballast goes, I always leave at least my cutter on mine and have the calcium filled tires...

Just weld them on,, They are locally available at farm supply stores, or can be ordered over the internet. It just takes a few minutes even with a stick welder. Some 1/8 7018 at about 125 amps works for me.

Hi All,

Unlike some of the safety police types postin here, I'd just like to quietly point out the unsafe hook-up in rimshot's first picture, where although the load hangs down from the center of the bucket, the attachment point of the chain is solely on the left hand grapple mount, from whence it crossed over to the center hook. This mounting applies a twisting torque the the left hand bucket mount and is essentially trying to twist the bucket off the mounts.

We should all avoid this kind of one-sided or torquing hook ups, instead either just using the center mounted hook, or better yet, both of the end points. Also, the positioning, while dramatically impressive for a picture, is too loose, making the bucket have to rear up too high, and bringing the COG too high risking lateral instability.

I like it. I made my own, because my tractor is small and the lifting capacity is only 1900lbs. Yea, but size don't matter. I like making stuff also.
