I keep my ck2610 in an unheated pole barn. It's been very cold here for the past week or so. I thought I'd go out and start her up to see how she ran as this is the first winter I have this machine. I had no problem starting...a little smoke and some banging around not bad for how cold it's been. I let it idle till the engine was running smooth and the temp gauge came up. I backed out of the garage and started going down our driveway and it lost power and died. It started right up no problem and when I went to throttle up the engine dropped off in RPM's and died again. Kind of sounded like it was losing fuel? Started it once more and it ran fine?? I thought maybe the fuel had gelled a bit? I used to have a lower radiator hose heater on my over tractor. I think I'm going to add one to this tractor. I always treated my fuel with a additive for cold weather. What do you guys think happened?

Might of gelled a bit ,Then the returned fuel warmed the tank fuel up , we had 3 plow trucks with treated fuel die last night same deal put the torpedo heater on the fuel tanks 10 min good to go , One made it 50 feet then died

I'd agree with Peter. You have fuel starvation. The fuel either gelled a bit or you had an ice crystal in the line. If using off road diesel, which usually doesn't sell fast around here, I'd add about 50% more additive. The fuel station here advised me they put in additive to their tank for Winter. I added my normal amount and it gelled on me. Lesson learned. My rpms would go up and down. At least it ran enough to get it into a heated garage.

I've been using stydene that the dealer gave my when I bought the tractor. I have Howes and Power service that I used in the past without a problem. Hmmm??

Victor, I feel for you folks over near Erie. Ya must be getting tired of the snow by now? Wish we had more here east of you in Tioga County. Only a few inches on the ground.

Sounds EXACTLY like what happened to me about 30 years ago. Extremely cold ( -20F) - tractor started and let it warm up for 20 minutes - got about 150 yds down the driveway and it quit. Checked in fuel tank and it DID look like jello. Generator and wife's hair dryer for about 30 minutes solved the problem.

Now I put Power Service in all my diesel fuel.

You might need to run number 1 fuel or mix some with the number 2.
I'm not a big fan of additives.
It's been below 0 for awhile now here in northern Minnesota. I'm fortunate to have a heated garage to keep my machine in. If I had to keep it out, I would just use straight no.1 IMG_20171227_062846270.jpg

I take it #1 is kerosene?

   / CK2610 cold wheather question?? #9
No, number 1 and number 2 diesel at pumps, some have a blend of both and will be labeled as so.
Kerosene is labeled at a separate pump.

K-1 is kerosene

Where I'm at we have a choice of off road and #2 heating oil. They move a lot of off road as we live in a large ag community. K1 and taxed diesel is also available. I buy off road 5 gals at a time and use kero as a back up heat source when i'm not burning coal. I have a toyostove laser 73 heater that uses kero from an outside tank. Can I add a little kero to my diesel? If so, how much?

I would not go more then 50/50

I would go one of two ways. Look in your op manual and see what they recommend. Or call your service manager at your local Kioti dealership and see what they recommend.
My 2009 M6040 is Tier 3. My op manual recommends No 2 diesel for temps above 14 F and No 1 diesel for temps below 14 F. I know I've started the tractor with summer diesel in it with no problems at -15 F.

The service manager at the local Kubota dealership said its best to not use any kerosene.

Putting a few gallons of K1 in your tank will cure your problem from happening again. I have been doing this since 2004 with my first diesel tractor and now this one. You can also use an anti-gel additive. I started my tractor up the last two days do some work with no problems. It was 0 on Saturday and 5 degrees yesterday. Up until late yesterday afternoon my tractor has been kept outdoors.

My Ck30hst got a good work out this past week. We have the years average snow fall easily beat by 20 inches already. You wrote stydene. Did you mean Stanadyne? Good stuff but they make different additives and not all of their mixes are for Winter use to drop the gel point. Read the bottle over and see if yours is for gelling too. Power Service in the white container will drop the gel point by 40. Easily found at Tractor Supply and also saw it at Walmart. I've never used D1 and never added any kerosene either. I've just used the Power Service additive for Winter at the rate/gallon as advised on the bottle, to road diesel after the off road diesel problem I had, and have been good down to -4F' which was the coldest for me running the tractor in the last 12 years. Mine sits in an unheated garage. I do use Stanadyne, with the blue and white label, for the warmer months though to help with lubrication of the low sulfer fuel. Once you figure out how you want to stop the fuel gelling, you'll be good to go.

Standard diesel fuel (sometimes called diesel oil) comes in two grades: Diesel #1 (or 1-D) and Diesel #2 (or 2-D). The higher the cetane number, the more volatile the fuel. Most diesel vehicles use fuel with a rating of 40 to 55. ... Diesel #1 flows more easily than Diesel #2, so it's more efficient at lower temperatures.

The stanadyne I have now says it helps with gelling. I put another oz. into the tractor fuel tank. If I get power service in the white bottle can I add that in addition to what I already put in?

Being that your having issues, I would say to go get the Power Service 911 (red bottle) and add that at at least the recommended dosage, or toss in another glug or 3 extra for good measure. And then when you buy your diesel, use the white bottle in the diesel cans before you set them to store them. That way you never forget and the fuel is all stored treated and ready to go.

I do that with my gasoline and diesel, I treat them as I am carrying them into the garage to store them. I never have to worry about if the weed eater, garden tractor, SxS, Kubota, lawn mower or anything else is treated. If it has fuel in it, it is treated. I also limit my fuel quantity for storage to 20 gallons of each, diesel and gasoline. That way I am never storing fuel for more than 4 or 5 months (winter) or a month to 6 weeks (summer). I never end up with stale fuel. I toss the 8x 5 gallon cans in the truck and fill them up, drive home and treat them all with the additives of my choice (StarTron for gas, Power Service white bottle for diesel), and then I set them in the garage to be used as needed.

How many time did you let your glow plugs cycle for before starting. I have a 2610 aswell and have not started in a couple weeks I will probably have to plug it in for a couple hours.

I cycled then one time. Turned right over. I did change my oil to Rotella T6 5w-40....makes a big difference. Ran some Power Service (white bottle) today. All is fine now.
