Drove by a KIOTI dealer today and he had one of models with the new style ROPS that folds in the middle. A definite improvement. I removed mine, but if I had that style I would keep it on. (I think). /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

One additional note - from lowering my old ROPS to the 45 degree position, I know have a bare spot on the left inner fender where the ROPS rubbed through the paint. No big deal, just hate to see that on a new tractor.

Yep, that's a problem that I've seen on that ROPS.
There's no way that I would have removed the ROPS though. I've had some close calls at times, and was very glad that I had my ROPS up and seatbelt on. Not that it happened, but if it had, it might have been bad. Years ago, before ROPS, I nearly died on an old 8n on fairly flat ground.
I'm glad to see ROPS on tractors. They make a huge difference when used correctly.

I'll second what John said about the safety of the ROPS. My close call came from above, rather than from a roll. A branch, not big enough to kill me, but big enough to hurt worse than a frying pan smacked into the side of my head by the lovely Mrs_Bob came crashing down one day, hit the ROPs and bounced harmlessly to the side. It was an eyeopener!

I bought this used 3054 and the owner had cut the rops, shortened it by about 6" and weled it back together so he could fit it into his garage. His yard was very flat and mine is very hilly. I am going to add some extionsions back to it or I may just buy a new one. Hey, Jon how much is a ROPS cost?

I guess I'm not grasping where the ROPS rubs the fender, mine doesn't touch the fender that I recall. With the full cage on mine, the full folding model works fine, the front folds and sits nicely on the fender grab handles, not sure how it would work on the new model.

Hodak, you removed your ROPS??? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I hope we don't read a tragic story about you in the safety forum.

The only close calls I've had were from low branches while mowing around the edge of my fields. Let that rops catch a few branches and that can be dangerous also. I used two older model tractors for years that did not have any rops and never had a problem. But, then again I don't fool around on any hills either. I may put them back on at some point. They sure are easy to remove and install. So far, I only tried to back into the garage once when they were upright. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif As far as the the rubbing issue, when the rops was lowered to the 45 degree position the left side made contact with the fender and when I saw this it was too late. The paint is gone. Like I told my wife: Oh well, the first of many scratches I suppose. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

That's pretty strange Hodak, mine doesn't rub the fender at any angle. I know what you mean about scratches, a big log I was dumping on a brush pile bounced off and smacked the hood of mine, small dent and some scratches. I tapped the dent out, but the scratches remain. I'm armored up now, so the trees will have to work harder to get my CK. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

It would be nice if the dang thing would fit in the garage..
