Clean HST Screen Anytime - Don't Lose Fluid

I doubt you missed it. It would seem the huge quantity of fluid used in an L would not benefit that much from a screen as the smaller capacity tractors do.

I know full-sized backhoes have screens. I doubt yours doesn't. Perhaps it's just not called out. I would look for where a hard-line enters the bottom of your rear-end. It's a good chance that your screen is there, or close to there.

well, I went through the manual and nothing like that is listed in the maintenance section as replace, inspect or clean

There is nothing about the screen in the B2x20 manual either. When I changed my fluid at 100hrs (the business about the change at 50 had not come out yet)) I forgot to look for it. Now I think I see it but am scared to pull it. After the 120.00 SUDT fluid change I'm ready to leave it for awhile.

well guess I am going to have to contact the dealer unless another L2800 user sounds off.

Ok, here is the "step by step" from Messick's on doing the service on an L.

Not a peep about a screen. Two filters through, and Boy!!! They are mighty proud of those babies!!! And it appears there is no good way not losing a ton of udt or sudt when you do this stuff. Oh well.

Anyhow, check out this link. No screen mentioned whatsoever. The same step by step for tractors that have screens show them clearly, so it's not like they just skipped it.

bp fick- thats good to know that the hst fan protector needs to be moved or swiveled out for tranny filter. I just had a inspiration after reading your description of that. I was wondering since the HST fan cover doesnt need to be super tight bolted on, I was wondering if the first set of bolts would be held in loosely with aircraft nuts so it can be swiveled anytime. The second set closest to tranny filter would be a clevis pin and hairpin clips ? This would allow easy access to the tranny filter next time ?

I have a L4400 and it does not have a screen filter, instead it has 2 spin on filters for the hydraulics.

Check and see how much room tolerance you have in there. It is reasonably close quarters. We want that fan clear of anything that might come in contact. I think I want mine bolted tight. I sure don't want it rattling or jumping around, no, not a bit. Removing that HST filter is what? Once a year, give or take? But, your thought process is interesting. Let me know how it works out. I like new possibilities.

I've got an L275 from the paleolithic era. Anyone know off the top of your head if I've got a screen. Nothing in my manual. Gratzi.:D
