Cleaning eyeglasses, why is there only one good way?

I first started wearing glasses when I was 2. I was clinically blind so they tell me. You might as well say that I've worn glasses all my life as I am 70 now. About 10 years ago I was finding that I had to wear cheapie drugstore reading glasses for paperwork, then about 2 years later I had to double up and wear the cheapies and my regular glasses to read paper work so I bit the bullet and got bifocals.
My ophthalmologist wants me in for caderac tests, I am the only driver in the house and they put drops in your eyes that take about 4-6 hours to wear off,so driving is out of the question right after the test. He is 40 miles away from me, and there is nobody near me that wants to go that far away from home.

My ophthalmologist always wants to dilate my eyes. Since I'm on my own, I end up sitting outside in the waiting room or in my truck in the parking lot until my eyes quit watering and I can see well enough to get home. Usually takes a couple hours, which I spend listening to the radio or talking on the phone. PITA but ya do what cha gotta do. Take some dark sunglasses if you have 'em, and see if they'll give you the little dark film "sunglasses". Team 'em up and you can leave earlier.

They can give you antidote drops that make the dilation wear off faster, but usually don't unless you ask.

Wow- can't believe there are so many response on this topic. Just water is generally all it takes.

As for getting the eyes dilated, they always offer sunglasses. You will be able to see fine after a little while, but the pupils being dilated will generally give you a mild headache because they are letting in more light than normal. If you go on a cloudy day, you likely won't even need the sunglasses.

The Best way to clean the glasses (Simple Life Secret) - YouTube

How long has eyeglasses been around, and still there's only one good way to clean them that works everytime, dish soap and running water. I dont have running water in my garage so I rely my shirt tails, rags, sprays, this that and the other thing, till it come's to point where I have to walk back in the house, track some mud in, wife hollers at me, grab the Dawn dish soap, rub a dub dub, then run the water over my, by-polymer prescription safety glasses, wipe with tissue or microfiber cloth, and wah-la, clean eyeglasses, go back out in the garage and try to remember what I was doing........so how do you clean your eyeglasses?

That's pretty much what I used to do until I bought an eyeglass cleaning kit that includes a little squirt bottle and a small felt pad to dry it. This stuff is fantastic, but for your situation where you need to clean them outside and have an outside sink, what you're doing is probably the best.

How does one know if that's a necessary test? last time I went 4 years ago dont remember that, took some pictures, look at a bunch of numbers/letters, did not like touching the eyeball test, then doctors wonder why some people dont like going to doctors. Sound like your test is going to be an all day event when it takes 6 hrs. before able to drive. good luck hope it goes well.....
You know it's time for some kind of test when this happens>>>"You probably need to clean your glasses when that last hole you drilled was in your hand and not the board." Good one.............

SprayWay glass cleaner and a paper towel from the "box o rags" works for me. Once in a while I put them in a Tupperware bowl over night with a dawn/& hot water mix then rinse and dry in the morning. The cleaning pads work well for on the fly stuff, as was said cheap and plentiful.

Norwex eye glass clothe. It works awesome and you use no liquid. It works as best as I have ever seen. You can find a local Norwex consultant and order from them.

This sounds promising, chased it down on Amazon, Ouch, $16.95+S&H $5.00, is it just me or does that sound like a lot $$ for a piece of cloth>>> Amazon.com : Norwex Optic Cloth : Camera Cleaning Cloths : Camera & Photo <<<

For that price these clothe's better work awesome, so far I got about $50.00 in eyeplastic cleaning lotions, potions, micro clothes, and jingle jangles, sofar Dawn and running water works best until I get in the garage and if I keep tracking mud sleet snow rain in the house, my wife is going to have a wall built and make me pay for it.

Howdy folks,

I'm pretty "particular" about my vision - meaning I want it to be the best possible so I can see whatever task I'm working on. Seems just the other day I had perfect near and far vision. Now I need corrective lenses for both functions. **** this aging thing...

Anyway, I have ruined plenty of glasses over the years and find replacing them the conventional way from a brick and mortar store cost prohibitive. A friend recommend an on-line vendor Shop Prescription Glasses Online | EyeBuyDirect. Of course you need a valid prescription to order your glasses. While you need to do some shopping on the website (how will these glasses fit/look?), I usually save at least 50 percent on the cost of my corrective eyewear. Just received my prescription reading, distance, and progressive lens glasses (3 sets) for $250 bucks. The distance and progressive set have photosensitive lenses. Before I found these folks, I used to spend more than that on one pair of glasses at Walmart. Watch for sales on line.

There are other companies that offer this product. Just passing on a money-saving idea.
