I have an older jd 456 round baler and the oil in the flowed like molasses and looked like Carmel. Obviously water contamination from a bad fill plug gasket. What can I use to clean out the gearbox without harming the seals? I was thinking something like seafoam but am wondering about a better option. Thanks for reading.

My fall back solvent has always been Mineral Spirits (paint thinner) seems to be least harmful of all the solvents out there... Not sure if I would just flush gear box though, would rather disassemble and inspect and allow "solvent" to dry before reassembly and filling with new oil...

Personally I would just fill it up with fresh oil and run it for a bit and do a drain and fill a couple of times till the oil looks clean. Fix the water leak and check oil condition often.

Pour diesel through it. If it has a drain plug. You do not want to buy one, just call and get a price, you'll see. Take good care of the gear box.
