Cleaning gunky hydraulic quick disconnects

Seems like I bounce between Tub-O-Towels and WD40 and a shop towel. Depends on what I have on hand. Seems I never have the tub in the cab when I need it, but always have a roll of shop towels and WD40 in the tool box. Simply spray the WD and wipe it out.

For cleaning the PTO shaft, I use a bit a brake clean on a paper towel or Tub-o-towel after a pressure wash.

Not to sound rude, but is this really a topic that needs discussion? Just clean them however you wish; a rag, chemical cleaner, hydraulic oil, baby wipes... who cares. It isn't that big of deal. One way isn't necessarily superior or another way necessarily wrong.

We all have different tractor sanitation standards too, Some of us keep our tractor spit-shined and new looking, others of us haven't washed our tractor in the 20 years since it was new. (I personally land somewhere in the middle of that spectrum). No rights or wrongs here.

My question was aimed at getting stuff out of the inside of the female QDs. A rag will not do it for me, still leaves crud to get into the system. There are seals in there. Chemicals can damage seals. I don't have a lot of experience with hydraulics and wanted to know if there was an issue that anyone had run into, so I could avoid damage. I have seen brake master cylinder seals fail because of the wrong chemical, and I've melted gloves and silicone rings with the wrong chemicals. I don't think the question was out of line. There might not be a right way but I was trying to avoid a wrong way.

Buy plugs at the farm store. My QD's are ALWAYS capped when not in use.

I have them, but usually at least one comes off. It's only really ever an issue if I have been mowing. It will get PACKED with grass. The front facing ones for the loader are just above the belly mower deck on the discharge side.

Fluid Film for pto splines, any light lubing. WD-40 for some cleaning. Spray bottle with rubbing alcohol for cleaning recessed zerks on my BH after cleaning the excess out with the screwdriver blade on my knife.

Would rubbing alcohol be ok for cleaning out hydraulic couplers?

I suggest you invest in the Kubota (whole goods) snap caps. The don't come off and they will fit almost every QD female connector. Only place I don't have them is on my 3rd function QD's on the front loader. I use the New Holland soft plastic inserts on them and they come with tether chains attached so they don't get lost.

I'd think it would be fine.
