Clearing the deck

For the kids room, I'd use a Billy Goat Leaf Vacuum. Then my daughter would say to use the FEL to clean out my junk in the garage.

1* The deck is constructed of treated 2x10 on 16 in centers with 1X4 deck boards. Here the boards are not milled like in the States so that is a FULL 2x10 and 1x4. The end that I get up on is actually sitting on a block foundation and the rest has cement pilings and 6X6 posts. The ends of the joists that are against the house are sitting in metal saddles with special nails.
Absolutely NO offense taken--I have been here long enough that people tell me I am half/Pollack--
2*need to change my name to Petersenski. :D

Although I mentioned in a previous post in this thread that my wife wont let me anywhere near the house, deck, pool etc... w/ the tractor, we do get a lot of snow in this area, and I do need to clear the deck for the dog to go out (if I dont he likes to pee on the deck) I cant think of a way I am going to get my tractor on my deck without the wife killing me first:confused: As runner previously suggested going through the kitchen is unfortunatly not an option :D

Any sugestions?? :):)

Winter is much to severe in parts of the country so I am very glad that we an have a humorous thread once in awhile. "vacuum with a lawnmower" :D:D:D however... I wonder if that would work for the kid's rooms? :D

Well anyway here is the very unglamorous way that I get up on the deck. Not nearly as exciting as going through the kitchen.:D

From this picture it looks like you must have several close by neighbors.
What's the neighborhood and the people living there like?

Missionaries are a breed of their own with a special calling.
Wishing you well in all your endeavors. L B B

any suggestions?

None other than the old fashioned method. Get a good snow shovel. You have a beautiful place and if my place were as nicely finished as yours I probably would be afraid of getting near the deck. Our house is just not that finished. In fact it is unfinished in many places. That is the cost of doing-it-yourself sometimes.

Neighbors are the same the world around. We have one that is constantly saying things negative and starting rumors about us and we have others that are gems. Of the 6 families that we have living close to us, only the one is hard to get along with. I am sure that they all have moments when they think, "that crazy American."

Most of what the people in any foreign country know about America is what they see on TV or in movies. We do not live like those pictured on TV or movies--face it, almost no one does. For the most part most Polish people like America and Americans. They are not antagonistic like is true in some other countries.

We actually have a much bigger lot than is the norm here. We have about 3/4 acre and have only the one house on it. My one family of neighbors have a lot that is probably half that size and has 3 separate houses and a detached 1 care garage on it.

We live on the very outskirts of a suburb of Warsaw. When they ran the city water and sewer they did not quite come out as far as we live. And in many aspects Poland (outside of the city) is much like rural America in the 60's. There is a simpler, wholesomeness to life. Our kids attend the local Public School up through 6th grade, at which time we home school them, in order to prepare them for college in the States. We have one in 4th, 8th, 11th, and 2 in college. We like it here--in case you have not picked up on that. :) I just managed to get a long term residency permit to live in Poland.

Well it is a long digression from tractor topics. Let's see now where were we?:D:D

Thanks for the compliments. We had the house built almost 4 yrs. ago. I paid for the foundation and shell and I did end up doing a lot of the drywalling and inside finishing. I built the deck w/ the help of a few friends and a half keg about 1.5 yrs. ago. As I mentioned the wife does not let me anywhere near the house pool deck etc... At least when she is around I dont:D

Just run a couple hundred feet of heat pex with antifreeze in it and warm it up she wont even notice the extra fuel oil cost and you will be the envy of the neighbors.

I'm so disappointed, MJ-- and here I thought you had the optional stair-climbing attachment for the Yanmar!

Charlton John-- Just overfill the pool, wait for it to freeze, and you've got a bridge to the deck!

Seriously, Mr. Peterson, I envy you-- spent a fair amount of time in Europe as a youngster (but never in the south). Based myself in Stockolm, with many forays into Finland. Always wanted to vist Poland, Latvia, Estonia & Lithuania, however. Really like that neck of the woods and love the people, both natives I've met in my travels as well as stateside "transplants." Have had several Polish students over the years (college town); all were really nice kids.

Looks like you end up pretty dead if you go off the edge with no roll bar

Maybe, maybe not--life is in the hand of God. It is a calculated risk, as many of our everyday activities are. You take precautions, but cannot live in fear all the time. You ought to try driving here in Poland!! Now that is where you are taking your life into your own hands--:eek:

We like it here, most of the people are very kind and gracious and it has become the norm for us. My wife and I got to visit briefly Sweden and Stockholm. We thought that part of the country was beautiful. I grew up in AK and miss the mountains sometimes. They have them but in the far south of Poland. I will be there next weekend when I go to lecture in a conference.

Today is about sunny and about 32 F with a very slight breeze. The sun is reflecting off the snow and it is pretty. We had a good service this morning and life is good.
