Cleary Pole Barn

Has anybody here had a pole barn built by Cleary?

I am getting quotes on a machine shed and they are on my list. They are coming up higher than everybody else, but are sharpening their pencils to try to make the sale.

Any input would be appreciated.

Cleary makes a good building but they aren't as good as a Morton and many times they are priced like a Morton. I'd make them sharpen the pencils quite a bit if they wanted your business. Look at the specials that they have running on their website. They will lowball their specials to get an appt. with you. Then if you don't want that exact building it costs you much more but all you had to compare it with was the sale price one. If you can take a special they are a great deal. Otherwise you need to play the buying a new car game with them.

I built a insulated 50x64 Cleary and they were priced about the same as Astro and much less than Morton or Wick. I did start out with a winter special pricing.

They knocked off about 2k and a majority of that was knocked off the insulation pricing. If you can wait a little bit you can a save a couple hundred or so on shipping. By having it shipped when they have several buildings coming at the same time vs just yours.

My quote so far is for a 42' x 56' x 12'-4" (11'-0"+ clear to underside of trusses) with a 12' wide x 11' high sliding door at one gable end, and a 16' x 9' overhead door + man door at the opposite gable end and a continuous ridge light for $15,000 delivered and installed.

Does this seem appropriate?

Doesn't sound bad to me. Have you gotten price quotes from Astro, Morton etc..for a comparable building?

I limited myself to firms located within a 50 mile radius from the job site.

The other 2 firms are locals and do not have the national exposure that a Wick, Morton, or Cleary may have.

Cleary has an office in Escanaba. Morton has a office South of Green Bay. I can see if they are willing to drive 100 miles each way to the job site with a competitive bid.

I also have a 60 psf ground snow load up North which means a beefier roof. The 9' high overhead door is expensive, but I wanted to hook up an automatic door opener.

I do not know anything about Cleary pole barns but at $6.38 per square foot that is not bad. I don't see you having a Mortons put up for that money. I also am having a pole barn put up this summer and Pioneer is charging me $7.19 per square foot for a similar size, but with 14' walls and 2 sliders, 1 man door, continuous ridge light, 1 foot eaves all 4 sides, metal insulated roof siding , but no overhead door, can't afford it . in SE michigan

Three years a go I built a 50x65 12' tall with two doors for $8500. This was materials only.

I couldn't find their specials on the webpage either. Around here they advertise them in the local papers. I would use the locator and call them and ask what the current building specials are. For your size I see them all the time advertised similiar to that. I'm pretty sure the last one I saw was 45'x65' 12' with two sliding doors for $11,995.

I found one of their ads in a local newspaper.

They had a 42' x 64' x 12' building for $14,400.

I asked my salesman what that included and he said "NOTHING". That building can't even be built for my location. Additional money must be spent to beef up the roof for my local area building code requirements.

The advertised building is good for south of the mason-dixon line. It is a national ad with local implications.

I still think I got a reasonable building at a fair price, so I am inking the deal first thing tomorrow morning /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

The building permits used to be free for ag buildings. Now I have to pay $165.

Thats terrible workmanship if it can even be called that. Looks like a lot of scrap metal. I would not even give them a penny and infact would be charging them to remove the hunk of crap they left on my property.

I agree with Davey, If they wanted payment for this I would tell them to come get the piece of junk and sell that to somone else. I wish you luck, but dont give them a dime.

It's all in the crew that puts it up. Mine turned out very nice, and the price was right. I could get real picky about the little stuff, but no use in that. The pictures in the above response are just terrible, and an example of poor workmanship, not poor materials. Cleary needs to step in and clean up that mess.
