RobS,
The best time to see moose in its glory during there rut season.
Just watch two big bull moose size each other up,than when there eyes roll back than comes the crash of the antlers. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif
Every living thing scoots to a safe distance, for this big guys so no mercy.

Its cute to see young bull moose in action during his first rut season, for he knows he should be doing something..what.. and answer every call from a female moose, than always seem to be pay no attendion from the female or ran off by a bigger bull.

Moose around these parts have grown in the last 15 years, and its really nothing to see them in a wet lands come spring or on your front lawn. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

I understand you folks have some whitetail deer that puts our whitetail deer to shame.

Hang in there no much longer and you'll be outside spring cleaning.

Re: Large animals

Thats even the same problem around here Pete.
Some people just don't realize to slow down out here in the country do to the wildlife..deer and moose mostly.

Thats how NH Fish & Game motto became..Brake for Moose could save your life.
In the early 90's it was four to one,for every fourth moose vs auto a driver was killed, and w/the small compact autos which the hood comes level w/the moose knees, the next hit the windshield, streeing wheel,driver...650 to 1000#plus not much of a chance.

I keep telling people chances are you'll miss the first deer, its the second or third deer you have to worry about crossing in front of you.ahhh whats the use..for they still speed right along as if they were on the interstate. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Do the bears pay you visit much during the fall?

Gotta love this weather. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

An excellent way to put it, Thomas. Their herding instinct will make them cross right in front of your car if the herd is on opposite sides of the road. We have a lot of deer in central Virginia, and a friend hit one in just that situation a few weeks ago, her first one. She called me after midnight one Saturday night on her cell phone, the deer was really just dinged up and still laying there. I told her I'd come, picked up my heaviest cast iron skillet and a 2x6, and headed out. When I got there I said she had a choice, I could beat the deer on its head or we could call a cop to come shoot it. She vetoed the beating over the head idea, so the cop came and shot it, and we loaded it in my truck, took it home, hung it up and skinned and gutted. She's a great professional chef, and so far we've (mostly she, I'm just the idiot help on the cooking projects) made roadkill stew, sausage, kibby (Lebanese meatloaf), and grilled roadkill tenderloin, plus we're in the process of tanning the hide. Pretty good silk purses out of sow's ears, if I do say so myself, though it was an expensive sow's ear--$1000 worth of damage to her car.

Re: Large animals

Fruitlady,
Glad to read your friend was alright, and you decide not to use the 2x6.
Hope you save the hind quater for a barb-q..yep corn on the cob, potatoes, beet greens barb-q venison, also Sunday morning home made hash browns, venison steak w/english muffins..lets not forget the coffee.

If you get a chance cook a thick steak w/onions,green peppers in real butter. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

There not to many people I know of who would try tanny a deer hide, and I are you just going to make a rug or vest, mittens, hat?

Enjoy and stay safe.

What is the general specs, hours, and attachmnets on your tractor for sale. Price? Send a private if you like.

Thanks for the interest, Derek, but the first person who saw the little B1750 is going to buy it. I had it for 2 years, put 400 hours on it, and sold it for what I paid for it!

Guess it's true a properly maintained Kubota holds its value!

It amazed me the value of a used tractor good or bad shape. When I and my brother in law were looking for new or used tractors, we found beat up tractors selling for 3 to 4 thousand less than a brand new. We also found slightly used ones in really great shape that were selling for the same or more than brand new! To bad cars and trucks don't work this way.

Icy your way is it? Went snowshoeing last night and its a good thing the Tubbs got crampons!

Did a Ford Explorer rescue yesterday 1 mile up on the snomobile trail on Hazen's Notch. You get any of those yet?

Haven't got many lost tourists this year. Maybe it's the buckets of water I toss at the foot of my road; the ice seems to be a great deterrent!

Threw a frisbee in my meadow for the dogs yesterday. It flew about 100 feet then skidded across the ice for a quarter mile!

Anyone heading to Isle Royale via Upper Michigan better let me know and stop by and visit or at least wave! The ferry from Houghton goes right by my farm as I live on the canal. By the way, it's in Lake Superior, not Lake Michigan....
Great place to visit if you like to get away from it all.

Pat, I've always heard there are only four Great Lakes... and one Superior /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
