Just a FYI, if anyone is interested, the link will show what the older style of closed-center hydraulic pumps that Deere used on their tractors looks like.

Surplus Center - 3.0 cu in JOHN DEERE N AR94660 RADIAL PISTON PUMP

And yes, they are pricey! But dang, do they perform when all is working! They were direct drive off of the front crank. They were used for a long, long time.....mid 1960's until the late 1990's. From their old 10 series (1010) to the 55 series (2955).

I could think of a few projects if I wanted to spend that much....

They list it as 3.0 cubic inch/revolution. That is bigger than my 2030. It has a 1.38ci pump, 2.40ci was optional. I'll bet it's real pricey from JD, considering what S.C. wants

I noticed the 24 GPM. The thread on the Deere 401C, tractor Data has it listed as a 20 GPM pump, while the JD 2030 is 13.5GPM. I think the got other Deere models wrong, since it starts to list a 2640 at 6 GPM! Must mean the tranny pump....I KNOW my 2640 has more flow then that.

Usually my dealer when I bring it in the shop, rebuilds the current pump...I think it's cheaper then "exchanges". That's what the do w/ water pumps.....(at least at the dealer).

I love the closed center hydraulic system. I swear it puts less strain on the engine when the current Deere open center systems (5000 series, etc). I rented a 5500N once and you could hear the engine rpm's change when operating the SVC. But ya hardly do w/ the older closed center....

Like I said, I could think of a lot of projects w/ that pump.....

I have seen more of this pump than I care to ever again. My guess is they used this pump as main pumps on the tractors and I know this was/is a steering pump and for the brakes on the loaders and larger equipment. Many more better options out there for piston pumps. CJ

Yup, where they mounted them was up front, tight location. But not bad for technology dating back to the 1960's I think.....not much changed on it for years.
