Well, I took my FEL off for the first time today... I wanted to use the 3525 to mow grass instead of the 8N, and the ground is still fairly soft, so I figured that was a good enough reason to do it. If I had known way back when that it was that easy to take on and off, I'd have done it a long time ago!!!
Let me tell you, that FEL is HEAVY!! Without it, the 3525 didn't leave any more footprints than my 8N, and I mowed the entire front part of our yard without hardly any marks at all from turning. I was really impressed... I figured with the new tread on the front tires, I'd at least make some marks turning around, but I kept the speed down and made gentle turns, and so, hardly any marks at all.
After the mowing was done, I put the FEL back on, which posed a little difficulty. When I took it off this morning, the temps were in the 30's... but by the time I was done, the temps had risen to the upper 60's, plus the sun was shining on the loader as well. So, the hyd fluid in the lines and cylinders warmed up, expanded, and with nowhere to go, there was pretty good pressure in all of the lines, and I couldn't get them back into the quick couplers on the control valve... So, I had to bleed the pressure off of all 4 hoses, and after that, they hooked up easily. After I got everything hooked back up, I had a couple of chores for the FEL, and I was suprised at how much more of a track I was leaving with the FEL on than with it off... the ML230 FEL is HEAVY!!!
I'd say it took about 5 minutes to take the loader off... maybe less than that. Since I've done it now, it will certainly take less time the next time. To put it back on, not counting the pressurized lines, took almost the same amount of time. It's much easier than I anticipated... and you can bet I'll take it off more from now on for mowing... it was MUCH easier without the FEL sticking out up there, and much easier on the grass in the turns without it.
I have to agree my poor 2N just sits now, I use it for the landscape rake, but it developed a nasty head gasket leak so the Mahindra gets used for everything. The FEL is about 1400lbs +/- so yes it does add a lot of weight.
I really was hesitant the first time I took off the loader but it is VERY easy to get off and on.
