clutch grinding??

And the winner is... inertia brake adjustment! I adjusted the inertia brake last night just a little, and the grinding noise stopped. Tonight I adjusted the clutch so it had more play, and the grinding noise came back. *arg* Then I adjusted the inertia brake again (adjusting the clutch threw off the inertia brake adjustment) and the grinding went away again. :thumbsup:

My guess is the Inertia brake linkage must be lightly applying the brake and slowing the rear end gears,etc. to allow a smooth power shift. Huh!! sounds like One Fancy setup there. :thumbsup:

Glad it was simple fix I had figured as much! :thumbsup:

I use a different terminology is all but talking about the same thing. As it was explained to me by a Yanmar person there is a release valve associated with the inertia brake that dumps pressure to the clutch packs to help shifting also.

I cant prove it either way my manual is pretty vague on exactly what does what. But it does appear there are 2 ports in the clutch shaft next to the brake assy one is dark and one isn't which usually means fluid or not. fwtw

From what I have been told or have personal experience with-no adjustment. A firm shift is a normal thing on these a soft shift would probably mean trouble jmo.

GOOD question? I sure would like to see a parts Dia. and see how the Inertia barke setup works. May want to upgrade mine to a Power Shift. I just so happen to know were a parts tractor is close by. Hah!!! Steve.

I love the powershift, thought it would be real nice if a simple adjustment made it a smoother transition.........

Here is what I have on the inertia brake on 336 and probably 3110,3220,3810 and so on all similar is my guess including the 2210 G has. Its black and white or I could tell you exactly what they do the ports that is.

IMHO - These are similar to an automotive AT but lack the torque converter which cushions some of an AT's shifting shock.

The clutch packs inside the Powershift are similar to a multi-disc motorcycle clutch, where noticeable slip after a shift means excessive wear.

Why I was guessing "Brakes" not Hyd. I can't find anything on it Could it be the Actual Notorious "Wet Brakes" It is a Fred. Tractor LMFAO:laughing:

When I was drag racing I used a powerglide and it had a line "brake" or as it was called a trans brake.

All it consisted of was a solenoid that applied the low reverse clutch and the direct clutch (if I remember right those 2) which essentially locks the geartrain up solid thru some carefully placed ports in the valve body.

And when you released the button it dumped pressure on the direct clutch releasing it and away you went.

That was MJ Peterson. He is an american missionary or preacher that lives in Poland. Look him up on here he did take it apart and do something to the ball bearings in it or something. Cleaning wise?

I remember the post now and seeing you get MJ on the post so that he could speak the guys fluent language to explain his problem.
