So posted earlier trying to figure a fair price to replace clutch in my New Holland TC40 though not any answers to the going price I now find that a new flywheel is considered as part of the job. I find this to be unusual as I have less than 1200 hours, the clutch is not sticking, and the tractor has not been abused. Would like to hear comments from others in the know as it seems to be a bit over the top.

Forgive me if this sounds bad. Has the clutch been adjusted?

I understand, however I have been around cars for some 55 years, changed engines clutches, etc. not to familiar with tractors but know when the clutch is gone. I simply want to hear others and comments about the need to replace a flywheel as I don't see the point on a simple clutch replacement. i can accept the bearing and pressure plate, misc seals etc.

Not sure why a flywheel is considered part of the job unless there is something very wrong with it.
I would think most of the time you should be able to get by with just having it machined for around $40.
