ok, im going in first gear up slight incline, push in clutch to stop and it does but it doesnt roll backwards, go to pull it out of gear and its stiff pulling it out and when it pops out then it rolls backwards.. i adjusted the freeplay but it didnt help. does the clutch just need broke in more? i have 125 hrs on it. what are the symptoms of too much freeplay and too little freeplay? HELP! i dont want to burn up my clutch.

Your tractor is exhibiting symptoms of too much free play--too much can cause the clutch to not fully release. Too little free play and the cluch can slip under load.

However, improper free play in the clutch linkage isn't always the sole cause of clutch problems. The clutch disc, pressure plate, or flywheel can cause the same problem. Hopefully, yours is just the adjustment, but in case not, maybe with only 125 hrs on it, the warranty will cover?

Yes, it sounds like the clutch is not releasing fully.

We are assuming this is a straight gear drive tractor....How much freeplay does it have? Should be 1/2" - 3/4".

it was about 7/8", then i tried 1", then last night i tried as little as possible and all three adjustments its still the same. it really does seem normal, but im not sure. it seems like a syncro thing of some sort. like if im not on a slight incline it dont try to creep fwd or anything and it comes out of gear easily.

if im sitting still when i push in clutch and shift to reverse too fast it will grind, just have to pause for a second or two then it will go,,, now if im already in another gear then shift it will go quickly in fact it works better to go quick... im sure all this stuff is normal but just want to make sure.

It might be worth the money to pay to have it hauled.

It doesn't sound right to me and you've tried all the free play adjustment options.

I operate a 1985 Fiatagri 90-90 a lot and it is similar. With the clutch fully depressed, if you try to go into a gear from neutral, you will meet resistance and it will start creeping forward (or backward) before you get it fully into gear.

The thing is, it doesn't always do this. Sometimes it is hard to get it into a gear and sometimes it slides smoothly into gear without creeping.

I haven't tried to adjust anything yet myself and don't mean to highjack your post. Just wondering if yours does the same? Oh yeah, mine has about 2200 hours on it, so I guess any issues are a lot more understandable to be happening on mine than yours.

I never operated a Mahindra, but I suspect your dealer will say that's normal. It sounds about like my unsynchronized gear drive Yanmar. I would ask the dealer, and if it's an unsynchronized transmission, leave the clutch adj. at 1/2" and get used to it. Better yet, got to the dealer's and tryout another tractor.

Well, I hope it just turns out to be normal on your tractor. I doubt it is on the one I use. On mine, if I still am rolling slightly, it will shift smoothly more than not. I don't know how many people have used a Fiatagri Hesston 90-90 tractor. I don't ever see any like it out here.... this is Deere country from what I've seen.

BTW, I am east of Dallas too. About 120 miles or so east on I-30.

The only additional advice I can add is that, on my Kioti, I started to have trouble getting into gear without grinding or getting it out of gear. I turned out that the clutch pedal stop bolt had loosened up and backed out a little. I readjusted and tightened it up. No trouble since.
