Never like those coolers, the drinks were never cold enough.

I liked the smaller ones in gas stations. There was something magical about going to the end of the cooler and taking the cap off, where it would fall into a recepacle.

Being you own an auction company, you must have a better idea of prices and what things are worth.

Locally around here and lately in the national news, antiques are not bringing the prices they used to. Mainly do to older folks passing away and millennials have no interest in past history and antiques. Everything electronics is the rage these days. :confused3:

Personally, I wouldn't put anymore money into it trying to restore it to it's original condition. Of course, the bids when it originally goes up for auction should give you some indication of what to do.

Honestly I have no idea. I’ve never had anything like this before. I’ve seen them sell on eBay for 10k in mint condition. If the holes weren’t drilled in the top I believe it would bring 5k. This might be a tough sale because it’s too big to ship and it’s too much money for the locals. Then again if you can drop 5k on a novelty item a cross country trip or $500 to a freight company isn’t a big deal. And the intent wasn’t to restore it. You’d have to spend a lot of money to do that. Fixing the top was the only part I was considering.

Not a Coke fan but their stuff sells well and for top price so been told. I would see if there is a simple way to fill the holes and not draw lots of attention to them. Oh at for few dollars. Can you find a rounded head bolts that would look like maybe they belonged there, not something that would draw attention to themselves. No idea their size but they make a copper looking paper holder that has such a head and you just bend the two legs of it to hold your paper together. You find the same design in thin paper folders. Man if you could find some older tarnish items it may not take away from the cooler's looks.

My wife is an avid Coca-Cola collector - I tell her this place looks like a Coke museum.

The avid, big dollar, collectors want stuff that's pristine, like new. I've seen auctions where they would pass over things because of a small flaw or signs of usage.

There are collectors out there that would buy it, and more than likely pay the $5K for it, but I would think the holes need to be repaired. Welded in, ground down and repainted to match in order to get top dollar.

We found one of the smaller ones for the dining room because she has so much other stuff there wasn't room for one the size of yours, but if there was room and she knew about it, we'd probably be headed to Crossville to talk.

Restore it, then get involved with the Coke Collectors forums and clubs, post on any that have a for sale section and I don't think you'd have to wait too terribly long before you found a willing soul with a suitable bank balance that wanted it.

That痴 a nice cooler. Does anybody remember the chest coolers like this but they had a flat top with slats where the bottles hung from? You put in a coin and slide the bottle along the rail and pulled it up to get it out.
I went to catholic school and they had one in the church basement. My buddy and I (about 8 years old) would pop the bottle tops with an opener, then lay on our bellies and sip soda with straws until we felt like we were going to burst. That痴 about the extent of my criminal history, and we never were caught.

Yes...
They had one in the doctor's office that I went to back in the 60's...
My fathers place of business had a Coke machine that dispensed only Cokes...
Just put in a dime and out popped a Coke...
Machine sat vertical and not very big...

I would repair the top with filler and paint but I am not a collector of Coke memorabilia...
IMHO the previous owner butchered it up with the so called bar...
