Coffee

Thank you Rick... you've given me a weapon to use... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I can now tell my friends as they drink their "exotic" politically correct & being with the "in-crowd" blends of the week...

That I... prefer nothing but the absolute best... not exotic but... proletariat coffee... /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Decaffinated coffee is for guys like me that don't drink it by the cup anymore, but measure by the pot. I think there still must be at least SOME caffine in it, or some other substance, because after 3 or 4 pots I still get a little shaky. Course, after 3 or 4 pots of high test I can rent myself out as a jackhammer. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I have enjoyed exotic coffee for some 20 years now and met a guy they call "Hogballs" on www.ford-diesel.com and no thanks to this guy am now maxing out on coffee.

Have two grinders - one for espresso, one for regular. Coffee presses all over the place, a $550 espresso machine drawing a constant 800 watts, a cupboard full of bags of coffee, etc. My girlfriend just looks at all this and rolls her eyes.

Anyhow, I just bought a 5# bad of green beans (my favorite La Minita Terrazu) and thought it would last a couple months. Wrong - I got it two weeks ago and it's half gone already.

Then there's the vacuum pots. I have bid on several of the old Cory pots on Ebay and lost the bid each time. Dang things going for $50 and I won't pay it. So anyhow there are lots of coffeehaulics out there...

Now I have to build a new kitchen cabinet to house it all so the girlfriend quits rolling her pretty little eyes.

If ya want a good rush - go to Espresso (God I can even spell it now - I think???)

Have fun...

Talkin' about all-nighters - our physiology professor in med school told us that for all nighters to work you have to replicate the chemicals in your body during the test to be the same as when you were studying. That meant that if you were hopped up on caffeine during the studying, you better be hopped up on caffeine when you took the test. Had something to do with the chemicals affecting how the memories were stored.

DocHeb,

That might be right, but I'll bet another aspect is that coming down of being hopped up on Caffeine during the test would be real bad. Once your up there, best to sustain it until you can fall asleep.

At the risk of being shunned on this thread, I never developed a taste for coffee, even in college. However, Pepsi-Cola should thank me for single-handedly supporting their Daytona Beach distributor. But I will agree, Pepsi is not as good at caffeine delivery as coffee. I could be pull an all-nighter drinking pepsi all along, once the work was done, I'd fall asleep with no problem at all. 'Cept for my bladder that is, amazing the affect of a 12 pack of pepsi.

That's interesting. My all nighters ended when I handed the program in. When I studied for tests, I usually stopped studying at 11:00 PM. I figured a good nights sleep was also an important ingredient in taking the exam.

Dr. Dan, I had forgotten about those old Cory coffee makers. Over the years I went through 2 of them that my Mom handed down to me.

They not only made great coffee but had a much better sound (the true origin of “the large sucking sound”) than today’s coffee makers.

go to the ytmag.com store. I got a cool ytmag cup there. Had a FARMALL on it, with yt's logo. I have metioned this a few times to our Grand Marshall Awesome Spectacular TBN Web Master, but he is not ready to start sales off this web page yet; there's a fair amount of up-front work...

My current favorite is an organic French Roast from Equal Exchange that I buy in 5 lb bags. Doesn't last too long though. My better half introduced me to Puerto Rican Expresso the we just tossed in the coffe maker for rocket fuel/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif . Then she quit caffiene alltogether (more for me!/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif). I don't need no stinkin gold filters/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif (they take the taste out) but I did make a concession to modern technology and bought a two heat coffee maker (so if I'm busy I don't get crude oil if I come back later). Doctor says I should cut back/w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif - HAH - that would be like cutting back on tractor time/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif
