WOW! Now that's a coffee maker!!! With the expresso portion, fantastic! I wish I could reach into the screen and grab that cup of expresso. Yummy. At $130, that's not a bad price for all it does.

I'm waiting for my trusty old Mr Coffee coffee maker to die. /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif I'm gonna have as much fun shopping for a coffee maker as I did for a tractor! /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Good Morning Thomas…

Thanks for the reminder… this is our coffee brewer for the shop… also one of the “exotic brands” coffee our shop purchased a few years back…

One correction is we have the DeLonghi Brewer with cappuccino on the side not espresso… {see how high tech I ain't...?}/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Thomas… didn’t you post a picture of your John Deere and Kubota coffee cups… or was that someone else…?

No problem, John. Like I said, we had to choose our market and we decided to go for people with taste. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Seriously, there are a couple of things that make for a good cup of joe. One is good water, the other is freshness. There's plenty of fresh coffee around, so choose your poison. Plenty of folks like instant because it's made of robusta beans (less coffee taste but a heck of a lot more caffeine). Canned or vacuum packed coffee is possible only if the coffee is allowed to stale completely (we call it "rotting" the bean), otherwise the packaging ruptures from the gases given off. People who can't tell the difference between canned and fresh generally have that taste deficit syndrome...forgot the name of it but if you put something sour in your mouth you should taste in on one part of your tongue, sweet on another, etc. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gifIf that's the case, save your money.

In my house we don't bother with the fancy coffee brewers; we use a $15 French Press so even if the power goes out we can have java!

I'll bring you a bag of the good stuff when we meet in August. In fact, I could call them marketing samples and just fill the back of the car! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif See you then!

What an outpouring of of dilletantish irrelevance. Coffee is coffee. As long as it has caffeine and can scorch your lap, it all tastes the same after 4.65 sips. I hope you guys don't really go off the deep end and start arguing that there are differences in motor oils. Kampai!

Does Mobil 1 make coffee. Is it synthetic?
Really, that Gevallia is good stuff, we used to get it as a diversion from Community. It is always good to let the tastebuds know what they be mssing. I am not sure if it is synthetic or not. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif
We prefer Krups or Braun (sp) coffee makers with the cone shaped gold plated filters. I used to laugh at MrCoffee but actually some of their units are alsmot decent if they would abandon that flat bottom filter basket that would be a big improvement. This could be worse than green vs orange and soon we will have guys trading coffee makers they never owned in for opposing brands they had all along. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif (I love this bug eye face)

Why? Inquiring minds want to know. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

J... I like that little critter myself.... /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

When Gevalia sent their coffee brewer, it is made by Krupps... I think those mesh filters are of a nylon/plastic composite type material like John Deere/New Holland uses in their fenders and hoods... unlike the metal mesh gold color filters like as in Kubota fenders, etc.

How come everyone is going to high-tech plastic but Kubota...? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Mike, drinking some coffee right now--your question--why are the cone shaped (paper or reusable types) better than the flat bottom basket types? Because the cone shaped type force the water to take a path through the coffee that is longer than the basket type, the water tends to stay in the cone type longer so it absorbs more flavor, they are more efficient because all the coffee grains are wetted unlike the basket types that often leave dry "coffee grain islands".
Think of it this way--consider those cone shaped fertilizer spreaders--why are they cone shaped---why is a funnel cone shaped. Anyway, the cone shaped type like Krups and Braun and others generally brew a more flavorfull coffee than the flat bottom basket type--the downside they usually cost more. The reusealbe filter baskets can pay for themselves quicky in filter cost. Nope, coffee by Black and Decker is not the same as what comes out of a good Braun brewer.
